Sonny looks pretty happy. He loves this country as much as I.

Re: Chukar
Looks great. Got out with son and grandson, Missy and 2 GSP pups for some flatland quail hunting this afternoon. Life is good for country folks.

Re: Chukar
Wish we had them in the wild around here. Looks likes fun.
I'd rather live on the side of a mountain, than wander through canyons of concrete and steel.

Hasn't anyone ever told you, you hunt chukar the first time for fun and from then on for revenge.NC Quailhunter wrote:Wish we had them in the wild around here. Looks likes fun.

Re: Chukar
I've gotten use to seeing them fly across a canyon and over the next ridge. Or so far down a canyon that I know I'll never see them again. Jumping 100 yards ahead of the dog. But being where they live makes my spirit right.

Re: Chukar
Looking Good, Greg.
Sometime soon I am going to make the long drive out to where the Chukars live and experience it with my dog before I no longer can. My dog's Breeder lives in Oregon and feeds me a steady stream of photos of his dogs (including my dog's Momma, Aunt, Siblings) and Chukars in Spectacular country. Something I need to experience. Thanks for sharing.

I wish we had anything in widespread numbers around here. I wish they'd MAGA and log then entirety of the Nantahala and Pisgah National Forests so we'd get some more grouse too.NC Quailhunter wrote:Wish we had them in the wild around here. Looks likes fun.
Re: Chukar
Jonov, I hope when you say entirety you mean small blocks of selective cuts over time, not clearcut the entire forest at one time. The Pisgah used to be known as one of the most balanced multiple use forests in the NF system.JONOV wrote:I wish we had anything in widespread numbers around here. I think that the tree-hugger crowd is so anti cutting anything at all that I'd start with my original suggestion as an opening bidfishvik wrote:Jonov, I hope when you say entirety you mean small blocks of selective cuts over time, not clearcut the entire forest at one time. In reality the fire hazards are such now that if they logged the forest to be less of a fire risk then I think that would go a long way.
I've got to make the trip out west for Chukars one day.
Re: Chukar
Jonov, If you get out to Spud land give me a buzz. Here is the basic chukar hunting tool kit:
1. Ultralite semiauto 20 ga with a drum magazine.
2. GSP/Mountain goat cross.
3. Chairlift
