Big runners
I was wandering if any of you know of a kennel that produces big running dogs. I'm looking for a line that will range out over a mile at a time and unreal energy. I'm not worried about nose, handling or train ability. I just want a spazzed out crazy running line. If anyone knows please let me know. Thank you for your time.

Re: Big runners
Pretty strange request. Not heard that one before. Don't care about nose, handling, or trainability?
Re: Big runners
So what are you planning for a dog that can't smell. doesn't listen and is to far away to see?Shellottome wrote:I was wandering if any of you know of a kennel that produces big running dogs. One mans junk is another mans treasure. If you guys don't know of anything like this no biggie. If you know of someone who does have a dog like this they just can't handle or stand to have around let me know. Thanks guys #lovecrazydogs

What kind of hunting do you plan on doing with it?

Big runners
Not so much a hunting dog. I own a ranch and want a ranch dog. I owned a crazy athletic gsp dog once before and it was never a dull moment. I have top notch hunting dogs with great pedigrees for hunting. It is a weird request, by no means did I want to upset anyone. Thanks

Thanks for the explanation. Think everyone was just a little baffled.Shellottome wrote:Not so much a hunting dog. I own a ranch and want a ranch dog. Your profile shows you own a English Mastiff, Yorkshire Terrier, and GSP and you're a boar hunter. I think I'm still a little baffled.

Re: Big runners
Sounds like you might be looking for a coursing hound type dog,
There are plenty of former racing greyhounds out there for adoption.

I rescued my grey 5 years ago. She can certainly cover some ground in a hurry!RayGubernat wrote:Sounds like you might be looking for a coursing hound type dog,

Downside is she is fragile and will want to take a nap after 30mins or so. Thin skin and frail bones. Mine has been hurt 3x from running in fields.

Re: Big runners
You want a big running , tough dog that can keep up with what's happening on the ranch. Nothing wrong with that.
You had a GSP you were thrilled with.
I suggest another sporting breed - maybe a bred for field trials but a reject.

Thank you Sharon that's what I'm looking for. In regards to the greyhound I own a staghound for coyotes. Staghounds are tougher. I guess the question should be does anyone here know of a big running field trial GSP reject? Thanks

I've found the Anatolian shepard and border collie to be the ranch dogs of choice.Shellottome wrote:Not so much a hunting dog. I own a ranch and want a ranch dog. I don't know what livestock you're running but Anatolians imprint easily and stay out with the herd. While borders are extremely athletic and have tons of energy, they are great truck dogs.

LOL I'm sure there are lots around. Your location isn't showing in your avatar; where are you?Shellottome wrote:Thank you Sharon that's what I'm looking for. Re: Big runners
Not sure what a staghound is but I had 2 grayhounds in my younger years that were 85 lbs and nothing but muscle and long sharp teeth and were afraid of nothing. They were flatter backed than the racing ones.
