New FC
New FC
I finally get to post something in this section for myself.
Although I am waiting for AKC to say so my dog, MNL Rimrocks Desert Sands "Mac", Has finished his Open Field Championship. He managed to win the Open Gun Dog at the GSPC of Reno walking field trial Last weekend. This took 2 seasons to accomplish.
Macs biggest hindrance is his handler. I am so thankful that I had the privilege to start out with such a talented dog. Mac being more bird dog than I knew what to do with allowed him to forgive my inability as a trainer. He has taught me patience, to be observant, to be determined, and to enjoy all that a bird dog is through good and bad times. He is a loyal friend and will always be #1 in my book.
I'd like to give a big thank you to all those that helped me along the way, and to my mentors Terry Zygalinski and Lou Tonelli. Without there guidance I think I would still be frustrated for not winning. Between Mac, Terry, and Lou the three of them have taught me to be a better handler and a better all around person.
Here are some pics of Mac
Mac in the early process of breaking him out
A nice limb find after hunting hard for 3 1/2 hours. This was his 6th find with 12 shots fired and only one bird to show for it
I had the pleasure of doing some work for a lady that is quite the photographer. She wanted to snap some pics of Mac while he was on the job one day. She even wants to get together and do a real photo shoot with him. She likes the action shots.

Re: New FC
You obviously didn't hold him back to bad, so few people or dogs ever complete an FC. I'd say you both deserve a big congratulations.

Re: New FC
Thanks all for the congrats and kind words.
There is a couple people I forgot to mention that deserved to be recognized, Helen (Kikismom) and her Husband Brian helped me get on the right track for the training that I needed to get done to bring Mac to his fullest potential and for introducing me to the game of field trialing. Thank you to the both of you.

OMG!!! I feel like a heel....somehow, I missed this post back in June!!! A heartfelt CONGRATULATIONS Casper! A job well done and we couldn't be happier for you!!!! Mac is your first...and will forever remain the standard by which you will judge all others. he is a heck of a dog and probably the ONLY GSP I have ever fallen in love with.
We miss you and wish you many more years of enjoyment with Mac and the rest of the gang! BTW...How is Miss Belle coming along???

Re: New FC
Congratulations! I think you described the very essence of field trialing. It's great to win blue ribbons...but when you become associated with people that make you a better all around person..That's not just a hobby to enjoy or a spot to love...it is, in my opinion...a blessing...Congratualtions again. Very impressed with your post. Thank you
Re: New FC
Helen and Bossman, thank you.
Helen your right Mac has set a standard, in my eyes and others.
Belle was going to start getting broke out last year but with plans of breeding her I put it off and put it off and put it off. Bred her this spring but she didnt take (will try again this fall). As soon as I have some birds to train with I will start breaking her out and run her in a few trials this fall (at the ones I am judging at {yep they got me judging now}). Times are tough here (work) so trialing will be minimal for me this fall.
Hope all is well and good at the Riggle ranch
Party on

Re: New FC
Hi Casper. Sorry I did not see this earlier. I gotta say I am pleased and proud of you, starting from scratch just a couple of years ago. Not easy, is it?
I would take that certificate to a frame shop and have it mounted. The day will come when it is all just a memory, and that is one you will want to keep.

Re: New FC

The day will come where it is just a memory but it will be a memory of a lifetime.

Re: New FC
PS the certificate comes in due time from the AKC, automatically. Sometimes it takes a few weeks. The placements have to get submitted by the FT Secy. Then they have to get put in the database. Then the database kicks out your new FC. Then they have to print a cert. and mail it. Etc., etc., but it will come. If you have not seen it in about six weeks, hollar at em.
Hey, did you ever get a bigger horse or are you still riding that Shetland???

Re: New FC
Yes I got a bigger horse but that little shetland can climb the hills at mile post 9 like the chukars that inhabit those hills even above tree line and yes I still got him. Not sure I'd sell him, he can do it allWagonmaster wrote:Hey, did you ever get a bigger horse or are you still riding that Shetland???
I did get the certificate a few weeks after the last trial where he finished
