Doug~ I had noticed last year that he had started dropping his tail for no reason when had never done this before so I didn't campaign him all of 2007, took him into the vet and had his back x-rayed and he's got major arthritis set in in 2 differents spots on his spine. We have NO idea what/or when he was injured as he's never missed a day in his life of 4 1/2 yrs. and has never showed any signs of being hurt, or in any pain (well we thought had we known the tail dropping issue and the not being very aggressive anymore with breeding were signs of a problem. If I could go back I'd of had him into the vet imediately after the tail dropping signs started, guess you really do live and learn more than you think). 3 of the vertebra's back by his pelvis you can't even see where they begin and end at. Our main goal is to keep him comfortable with Remadyl and will let him run and have fun here at the house plus breed some females to him. We have to be careful with the breeding of him as well because of pain and problems with his spine. No breeding on slick surfaces, might have to help lower or higher the female ect.... or may just have to ai if he has a lot of problems. I'm planning on breeding him to my Toby female who is out of FC Slick Kessie Joe x NFC/FC Heidi Ho's MRT this spring/summer when she comes into heat. The people that have bred to him just love his pups and how natural with pointing, backing and retrieving they are as well as what awesome temperments they have too.

Robbi~I'm so sorry to hear the bad news. I wondered why you weren't running him. You'll be glad to hear that his brother Rocky is throwing all of those traits in his puppies too. Rock will do his best to carry on the family name, as we are preparing him for national competition.

I'll still be breeding him so he can carry on the family name as well. Have seen other good dogs retire early. We'll have fun getting some babies out of him in the future. Good luck w/ Rocky.

Rob, That's Tobad about himself. He'll still produce some very nice dogs though and still has a lot of time to do just that. You do have a bunch to play with tough and suspect your making room for one of the Kessie x Cutter/Jax pups too. I'm really curious to see who is who from that breeding. IMO that double sire aproach is a really smart way to try and get the most out of a litter. Sould be neat to see how they turn out. Kessie is great dog and should throw some terrific pups.

Yup, we're getting a female out of Kess and either Cutter or Jax, plus we have a male coming too out of Kate "NGDC/FC/NSDC/NASDC Sin City G Spot" and Jax too. Plus we have 2 other littermates to Jewel (avatar pic)(out of Emmie x Cutter) that we'll be looking for owners for Freddy (f) and Dan (m). Their really cool pups and are showing lots of potential. Guess time will tell.

Sounds like this Lone Star GSPC trial after the NGSPA Quail Championship is FULL FULL, I'm awaiting to see if they can get any of our entries in, supposed to let me know on Monday or Tuesday. Don't know if we'll stay if they can't get all our entries in (and I thought I got them into the club sec. early guess I needed to be a month earlier).

Well just heard from the Lone Star sec. Keith Witt and we're in all but the OGD (as of right now said may be some scratches or they might be able to add a few braces). The weatherman is calling for snow on Monday, hope it goes north and misses us so we can head south on Tuesday. Sounds like it'll be a full house down there. Should be fun I'm ready to get away from here for a while.

I know that Keith and Robbi had ran one dog this afternoon, but picked it up after 2np's. I didn't get to talk to her to see what all was going on. You may know more already. They are up in the morning too I think. I'll try to catch her and find out. We are out of school tomorrow, so I have some time to catch up on some dog stuff and try to get in touch with AKC on DNA. That should be fun. Wish we could of had Kessie down there for the Bodden, but pups are just now 6 wks. so she would not have been in shape and would have really pushed it to even be able to be there. Oh well, maybe next year, since not sure she will have another litter. Hoping this one is the "good" one!
Good luck to all there.

Amateurs often run each others' dogs to help each other out. Can't be a charge, that would make the Am. running the dog a pro. I think there is a two dog limit in NGSPA, can't run more than two dogs in a trial that are not owned by you.

Just to clarify, Rick (owner) is a Pro. Chuck is an Am. Thats why he is running him for Rick.

What is strange is that a dog pro owned can be ran by am. and get an AFC title, BUT they CAN NOT run in the Am. Gun Dog at Nationals being pro-owned!

Ronnie handled quite a few dogs. 3 or 4 just in the OGD. I know that the had a dog in the callback, which was Sun morning, but don't know how he made out. I left early Sun morning to catch my flight back.

The fellow in the red and black jacket in the pictures is Ronnie.

Best regards, Greg J.

I myself find that a pro owned dog being not allowed to run in the am championship as very logical.
The am event is supposed to be about am dogs, not pro owned dogs.
I also have very little doubt that in some cases there is some
type of payment,be it birds, training, ect going on when a am runs a pro's
dogs. This rule at least stops it at the national level.
I myself have never found a guy nice enough to take one of my dogs and campaign it for free, but obviously they can be found.

In this case it is a big feather in Chucks cap for Sam down the road. He is a proud Grandpa of his Sams get, not to mention a very nice person. Every title a dogs offspring gets helps them getting in the HOF. I have seen NFC's running in Amateur in order to get another title. Does not matter who the owner is, it is still an NFC. That does not seem too fair to me, but no rules against it. Fritz cannot get the points Amt get to cross over, he has to get the full 10 pts., it may have been set up that way to equal it out. You say it is about Am dogs, then maybe they should only allow dogs with AFC to run in the Am Nat'l.

Before we get too deep in this discussion, tell me what the Amateur status is refering to. I thought it refered to the handler and had no reference to the dog or the owner. The reverse of Larue's position would be that no Amatuer owned dog should be allowed to run with the pro's. I don't think that is right.

In my mind, Amatuer is strictly applied to the handler and it seems that is how it should be since most Amatuer owned dogs are trained by a pro.

We have been running trials for almost 15 years now, so I have been around this. What I meant by strange is they allow them in weekend stakes, and non-champship stakes to be run, which in turn can take away a placement for qualification in a stake that , that particular dog can not be entered in.
As far as people taking care of and running a dog for free. We have helped out friends of ours that are not able to make it to trials by taking their dog and running it and hauling it WITHOUT pay and if we ever needed it they would do the same. Even at trials, we may not be taking care of the dog, but they can not make it we don't mind to run the dog for them. And they don't mind helping us out. Happened just last week at the quail, we couldn't be there so a good friend of our Heath Kooima ran Buck for us in the asd and didn't mind a bit. You will find that there are people who will truely help when needed, and if it is to help put a title on a dog they are associated with through breeding they are usually WAY more than willing to help!
