Region 9
my understanding is that Dour with Black rock Stitch was the winner and Spot with John and Wagonmaster were the Runnerup.
In the amateur, Dennis Pennington won and Art Cox with Hard Rock's Destiny (mike) was the runner up.
Congratulations to all that played at mile post 9.

The results are in on the 9. Had a great time. Just wanted to say thank you to all at Milepost 9 for the hospitality. I had the chance to meet and talk to Casper, Dennis Pennington, Mike Middleton, Frank Muterspaw, Randy Berry who I had not seen since the GWPCA Nationals in the early 80's, Art Cox, Doug Favor and his great training partners Alex and Richy, Rick Dodge, Emmett Burns, and my own partners in crime Eldon, Keith & Bobbi Richardson, and the owner of the great Champion Slick Dixie's Tarkus, Heinz Ahlman. I am probably forgetting some, sorry. There were many new people who walked up just to say hi.
What a great time. What wonderful friends. And no, Jerry, I can safely say, after chasing dogs over that country, you would not want to do that every day. Eldon's young dog BB got lost, it took me two hours to find that dog, at one point I had him just three hundred yards away on a mountain side across a canyon, but with cliffs on both side he could not get to me nor I to him. It was another 45 minutes before I backtracked and caught the bugger.
It is a beautiful place for old guys like you and me to visit once in awhile and pretend we can still ride like Doug and his friends.

That Old Spot dog is on fire all spring. Might have to try to get you to do early retirement with him as he is going to be a big force for a long time, (just kidding).
Did all of that rock scare the p jabbers out of ya? Man there is just a lot of rock. What horse did you ride? I know that you flew out. Hope you told Heinz hey for me and his sweet little mrs.
All of those guys would want to make you move out to that area. All of them are real good fellas. That woulkd be a great area to live.
Man the guys that are in the BDP and their dogs have had a great 07 spring. Hope it continues.

I am retiring him for May and June so the R4 is all yours. We have just run the legs off him, he is healthy and happy but young and in danger of reverting to derby, so due for some plain old R & R. Then we will reload this summer and go back at it in the fall. Eldon is goin fishin for a couple of months, and play with his new baby. Then we have a date with some wild coveys in July, in the WY mountains.
It is not the rocks that worry me, they did not worry me at all, that is the horse's problem. It is the distance down to the rocks that worries me, that would be my problem.
It was a good spring. But the best part was meeting all the old friends and new, and seeing the work of quite a few great dogs.

Congratulations Doug and John!
I have never been on the trial grounds, but I have driven past milepost 9 several times on my way to some of the best bird hunting I have ever experienced in eastern Oregon.

Congrats John w/Spot (and Doug w/Stitch). Guess we will have to wait until Oct. for the peanut war to pick back up. We have Kessie (just bred to Buck) and Buck home for R&R this summer too. Enjoy having the critters at home. Kix still has a couple more trials then he will come home for a while. Funny how they act when they get home after a full spring (or fall) of running isn't it. In fact, Kessie is in bed w/the kids right now (but don't tell Keith!
he thinks she is still being a dog, ha ha).
Congrats again, see you in the fall. (hopefully)

You are right Nancy. Spot remembered immediately where the "bone" drawer is, the one we keep the dog treats in. We have been through most of one box of Iams bones since yesterday. (He will slow down after awhile.) Here at the house we have about an acre and a half in Invisible Fence, so he gets his collar and just gets to walk around like a dog. Looks for chipmunks and such.
We went to Petco to get the bones yesterday. "Oh, what kind of dog is that? He is remarkable? Can we pet him?" He got petted by a ton of kids, and loved every minute.
It took about a day for him to relax, and now, well, now he is just at home. Such tough dogs, huh?

Yeah funny, how people say you can't make a "hunting dog" a house dog or a house dog a hunting dog! Boy did they miss something!

Thank you for asking about Gunner. He's doing pretty well. He's with Greg Dixon for his second season of broke dog stakes. He's got some growing up to do, but I think he might make a bird dog.

Hey Nancy! The guy in my avatar is my keeper out of Kirbys last litter, a yr after Gregs dog. I am really liking him, he has run Derby once and got a placement, then I put him in Srs at the NSS hunt test and got 2 passes. I may finish that and go into some Walking Trials with him. Kirby is fixed now, but she has had some super pups:)

Brenda, nice looking male. Reminds me a bunch of Kirby's littermate Fc/AFC Razorhavens Rebel "Rebel". I am so glad Kirby got the chance she deserved. Good luck with him, glad she produced some nice ones for you. How is she doing now, I knew you had her fixed, I absolutely love that picture you have of her in the snow! That was awesome.

Really enjoyed riding and visiting with you guys - can't think of a much better way to spend the day. Glad to finally get my dog to the end of a course before the spring trials ended!

Nancy,
Just made a breeding to a Kirby Daughter a week and half ago. She is out of (Kirby x DC/AFC Odyssey's Sam Saint Max MH) we bred her to a Grandson of NFC Sanjo Sin City Slicker. Here's her picture , real nice bitch with puppy and derby placements.

That sounds to me like a request to come do some judging! I'll let Rick Dodge know he's got a volunteer for next year!I'd love to see milepost 9, have heard the goods and bads on it. Maybe one of these days I'll get flown out there (always in our trial season though).

Bobbi Richardson sent me a winners photo tonight so thought I better put a little plug in for Stitchyboy:

Maybe John got a RU photo or group photo to post - he's used to winning though so maybe doesn't get as excited to brag it up!

Great picture! I can't tell who has the bigger smile, you or Stitch.
BTW, how tall are you??? You make Randy look like a midgit when you stand next to him.

Don't let Doug kid ya, he was wearing stilts under those jeans. Muterspaw is way prettier than he is, and Berry is about 6" taller in real life.
Congratulations again Doug, to you and to Richy also, for his win in the R9 Am. See you in the fall in Cheyenne or at the Sharptail if I can get Eldon to go there.

Thanks John! I think you and Keith better come on over to the Reg. 9 ASD next year after you whup up on us at the Reg. 9 NGSPA again. I think Eldon enjoyed the trial. I know he loved the huge limb find Rich's dog "Ben" had on a pair of sharptails. Funny how we have finds like that all the time out hunting/training and just track the dog down with the tracker, find 'em standing, flush birds, then go on. In a trial, with the dog getting dug up by the scout, the cavalry charge to find the dog with his nose to the sky, the flush of wild birds, it was awesome. We all had to catch our breath. Totally cool! I can still see it in my mind from my vantage point where I spotted the dog a few hundred yards away - I was afraid to move since I knew it had to be sharpies where he was at and just yelled directions across the draw at those guys so they could find him - afraid the whole time the birds would leave before anybody could see 'em which does happen frequently at wild bird trials where the scout blunders into the dog on point. It all worked out.Congratulations again Doug, to you and to Richy also, for his win in the R9 Am.

You are right, that is what we all live for. The spring birds, especially, are very spooky. It has always struck me that dog and bird both seem to take each other totally by surprise. Dog says, "Holy crap, there are birds here. Better not move a muscle." Birds say, "Holy bird poop, where did that dog come from. Better not move a muscle." And anything can act as a trigger. They hold better in the late summer, early fall when their are plenty of young of the year around. But we have the same thing in ND in the late fall, dog hits a point, you start for the dog, and 200 yards before you get there the birds start bailing out from all around the dog.
Really pretty. You just have to get the judge to see it with you in a trial.
If I had one wish about the NGSPA circuit it would be more wild bird trials.
What do you mean after we get through whuppin you, it seems to me, if I recall, and I do, that you whupped us. We came in second. We are still moppin' around, lickin' our wounds and planning for the rematch.

Oh Doug, I know I'd love to come judge if had the chance but all your all's trials out there seem to conflict with ours back here and the other boss here say's he's not letting me judge cause he needs me scouting worse than you all need me judging. I was supposed to get to judge the Region 8 or the Hun this fall and since I had to quite the job with AKC so now I'll be trialing that way in the fall too and will have to miss Keith and Bobbi's great trials and hospitality. Kindda gonna make up for missing it though as Nancy and I are going out the end of July for the finals of the Frontier Days for the weekend and spend with the Richardson's.

Good pics Casper - what kind of camera did you use? I meant to scope it out when you were taking pics but forgot.
Another great sponsor of the ASD that Casper didn't mention is Netkennel.com. The last couple years they've donated a .22 Henry's rifle to the winner. If you're looking to start up a website, they're great to help you out with it. That rifle is sweet - my dog won it the year before. I gave it to my scout and he shoots the crap out of it. Amazingly accurate and I've seen some amazing shots he's made with it. I can't hit squat with it but that's no different than any of the other guns I shoot!
