My favorite dog name is from the Steve Martin movie "The Jerk".
His dog's name was Sh!thead.
I've called every one of my dogs by that name at some point.
Love that movie.

My dog pevo was named after a dog I got for free from a guy broke his back and couldnt hunt. Dog was out of his german bred female bred to a hege haus male. Was tghe best dog I ever owned so after 20 years I named another the same as the first was named that by another person. This new pevo lived up to his rep :)

Now after work we can meet up and all have a pevo (shot of liquer). or beer in poland.

Thanks for all the examples guys! I love hearing new names whether it came about for sentimental reasons, you thought it sounded good, or just to be plain comical. I think my girlfriend and I have decided on the name for my upcoming pup but I want to wait until I get it to make sure the name fits. I must admit I am new to getting an AKC registered dogs. Some of these registered names are just plain crazy and then half the time the call name has nothing to do with the registered name. Although as someone said earlier I tend to like when they somehow relate the call name back to the registered name in a clever way.
KEEP EM COMING!
I love the pictures too, you guys have some awesome looking dogs!

A friend named her standard poodle, "Havoc." It fit him perfect. I had a lab :) "Jonz" (registered name - He Ain't No Sho Dawg Jonz). Our daughter's red setter is "Boo" (registered name - Boudica). I head about a brittany named "Gizmo." (perfect!)

Our current brittany's name is "Seven" - but nobody except my husband and I think it's a cool name! :) Well, "Seven" seems to like it, too.

My dog is registered as Hollywood Hogan after my favorite wrestler when i was a kid, he answers to both hollywood and hogan. We also had a dog when i was a kid named brutus, after brutus the barber beefcake, what can i say we liked our wrestling. If i get another dog soon it will be a female named Miss Elizabeth, if you know 80's wrestling you'll understand why.

However I think when people name their dogs with normal people names its awesome i.e. Jim, George, Jeff, Bill, Dave. I just picture a person yelling out there back door for their dog to come in and the neighbor wondering "who's Dave?"

We have a 3 y/o GSP Registered name is Silver Bullet's Latin Dancer, call name is Cha Cha. She wiggles more than any dog I have ever met when she greets people. It is like her tail is wagging her whole body.

I just name my Springer pup Loki after the Norse god of mischief. The trickster. I really like the name. Hopefully he doesn't live up to his name too much and cause too much trouble.

I've never actually watched that show. I took a mythology class in high school and was always interested in Norse mythology and the Loki character in particular.

Our Britt is named after one of my Cars. Britthaven's International Scout. This is because I have had my Scout for over thirty years and it has never left me broke down or stranded even after some type of mechanical failure it managed to get me home. I named Scout believing that he would be a trusted companion and never let me down. So far he has held up his end.
One other thing, I always try to use a single syllable call name... so much easier imo.

My female GWP was a "R" litter, so I came up with Rhyka. As far as I can tell its one of a kind for a dog. I think its sounds sorta german. Trying to find a decient sounding german girls name that starts with "R" is hard. Even border countries don't have any cool "R" girl names. -WW

My Brittany pup is "Chisholm Trails King of Diamonds" per his pedigree. Call name "Rex", which is Latin for king.

Felt like I spent more time/obsession on his name than my children's. probably not though.

I have a dog now that is likely to be my favorite dog ever. Indy, like from Indiana Jones, you hear the theme song to Raiders of the lost Ark when he is flying through the cover and slamming on point.

My son came up with the name.

I've had a bunch but the best name was "Tex". While waiting for the puppy from Pinehill Kennels, my daughter was joking about calling him "Tex from Tennessee". I went along with the Tex part, but when my son and I picked him up at the Grand Forks ND airport, we noticed he had a perfect Exclamation mark "!" in the middle of his forehead.

Hence the registered name "Texclamation". Lost him way too young to cancer. I still miss him.[img]TEXBIRD.BMP

although many days we use another less flattering name....

I also like the names Arlo or Rooster for males and blaze for a female.
I thought I was the only one with a liver and white Brittany on here. nice dog!

my pup is Ginger. My family and I picked her name by printing out a list of 100 favorite female dog names. We all voted for our favorites, and Ginger was the only name that made it onto all of our lists.

I had a GSP named "Boy". The name was constantly used in training. For a female name, I like Babe. These are "call" names that are part of the registered name.
