LaSalle Walking Trial

Post by ezzy333 » Mon Sep 04, 2006 7:41 pm

LaSalle Brittany Club had a fun trial today. It was really well attended by the members and a few outside dogs came in also. I took Rush, entered in Hunting Dog Stake and Time, entered in Puppy Stake. I wasn't expecting much as I just haven't gotten much done with them this summer due to our family problems early and then some obligations I had plus the heat in the past month. But it was a chance to get them out and run on some birds.

I am really pleased that Rush placed 4th out of 18 and Time finished second out of 15. I think Rush had his locked up till I messed him up when he pointed a bird from 40 ft and I was trying to flush much closer and after 3 mins or so I had him relocate and he decided to show me where the bird was and stopped right on it and then decided to see if he could catch it. What really had me confused was all of the dogs were having trouble finding birds in the rain and heavy green cover. I just knew that bird had to be closer. Oh well, pilot error once again.

Time run later in the day and it was a little drier by then. Her bracemate roughed her up a little in the back course and it seemed to shorten her up a little. But she patterned beautifully and kept her head in the game. I think she handled the best I have ever had her do and had one find handled flawlessly. The judge came over and told me how impressed they were with her knowing why she was there and the fact she ignored the other pup bumping her.

They almost made me think that being ignored may be a new training technique. Or maybe doing nothing is better than my training. Either way I am happy.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

Glad to hear of the good fortune. I knew you had better dogs than you wanted to claim.

Now its time to go and play with the big dogs

Congrats Ezzy! So you're telling me that Rush has come a long way since he was a pup that liked to run all over the neighborhood?

Not really Steve. He still does that but now he does stop if he runs across a bird.

And though she didn't do it at the trial, Time likes to check the next neighborhood as well.

It's going to keep me young or kill me trying to keep up.
