Second trial, first points!!

Post by GrayDawg » Sat Apr 03, 2010 7:33 pm

Katy took the Amateur Puppy stake this morning at the Nutmeg GSP Club's Field Trial held in E. Windsor, CT to earn her first two points towards her Field Championship.

Her run today was highlighted by a stop to flush only 4 minutes after the breakaway, a turn on a dime from a single whistle blast while 250+ yards away & a point that she held through a simulated shot then allowed me to walk over to her, heel her away and re-cast her. Katy put down a good forward race and handled incredibly well- I dare say flawless for an 11 month old pup.

Jen,
Katy did much better than I could have ever asked for. The stop to flush just before we turned right for the Dearborn Tract
is what grabbed everyone's attention (including me). Her bracemate chased away (which isn't a bad thing in & of itself in a puppy stake),
but was off the course for a good 3-4 minutes. I sent Katy on, she disappeared to the front & one of the judges & I came up to her while she was on point at the end of the Pine Grove on the right just before the hairpin left turn on the Dearborn Tract that gets you back heading towards the main course.

We're running Amateur Derby this weekend at the CNEBC trial. Let's see if the morning "mo-jo" can repeat itself!

How did Raven do on Saturday? Did you & Dennis have her entered on Sunday too?

Raven got a second in Open Derby on Friday. She has her points on the Amateur end so no he didnt enter her again. Dennis had entered Sally on Sat in OGD. He figured just to get her back into the game after just weaning puppies. She took a four point major. She won OGD and is now FC AFC Wolf Plain Brooks Sally, MH. Dennis is enjoying having his girl back.

We are entered in CVVC trial at the end of April. Got some work to do with Tucker before then.

Sounds like Katy put on an amazing show. She is a talented little girl!

Congrats once again and good luck next weekend

Jen,
Please send my congratulations along to Dennis- you both must be so proud of Sally, what an accomplishment!! :D :D
Good job with Raven too- I hadn't realized she took a second in OD on Friday. You guys are cranking & Tucker will
be just fine- he runs BIG !!

I'll miss you guys this weekend. I may be going to CVVC the end of the month- everything will be revolving around
Little League very soon. Saturday the 24th I'm definitely out (LL Opening Day). But I'll have to see what stakes are
running on Sunday the 25th & depending what Katy does this weekend, there may be a chance to run.

See you guys soon.

Jen,
Katy took a 3rd running with the "teenagers" yesterday in Amateur Derby. She handled great- had a back (which she held steady to the shot and let the other handler walk past her as I was 20 yards behind) and had a real stylish find by Truman's Crossing that she held steady to shot. I didn't see the run for the dog who won (a Brit), but the second place dog (another Brit) was Katy's bracemate and both her & Katy were to the front the whole time they were down. Katy finished a bit stronger imho- hunting further to the front. That said, I'm still happy that the judges decided to use Katy in her first foray in Derby stakes.

Personally, I think she looks better wearing blue! ;)
