Chip,
I used them on PHEZ in Kansas and Colorado.
Lots of horsepower - solid patterns - dead birds.
Try a box, put them on paper and see........
Now I use something much - much smaller, but do not want this thread to be hi jacked or morph into a big boomer for PHEZ thread.

William - Larkin - Moore is a fine gun store in Scottsdale AZ. They sell some vintage and British with 2.5" chambers.lvrgsp wrote:Bring it on, heck morph away my man....curious as to what you were shooting them through...12, 20, Semi, O/U, SxS, shot size....choke?....etc...

They put a lot of time into a load that they have mass manufactures (loaded) for them with premium components.
The 2.5" load has 7/8 oz of 6s. Probably low 1100s on FPS.
Ithaca - SKB 100 12 ga S x S (6.5lbs) choked .008 & .008.
I also use Golden Phez 2 3/4 # 5s in a couple of 20s and Golden Phez # 6s in my 28s.
SOLID patterns from pinned bird work over good Pointers with closer shooting.

Re: Winchester Super X Super Pheasant
WW amo is good- been using it for years-
The AA and all the compression moulded hulls were good for reloading- so I shot about everything they had- basically I'd reload to match WW loads-
not sure why anyone would pay that much for a box-
I haven't seen a reason to shoot 3"
I've gone to the Estate line- in my 20's they do nicely and are cheap

I'm shooting lighter loads- but then again- I'm not trying to reach out very farlvrgsp wrote: Shadow, I have seen the Estate rounds around as well, been looking at giving them a try.....

8's, 7.5's all I use- can't comment on 6's- been years since I shot any 6's- those were WW Super X
I've shot a couple cases- no missfires or jamming- clean loads too- nice to break the OU and look down the barrel
would suppose with 6's you're looking to drop pheasants out there aways
maybe someone has some you could pattern
20's- heck- I'd send you a few to try

Late season pheasants around here can be tough to hit...at least for me.Shadow wrote:I'm shooting lighter loads- but then again- I'm not trying to reach out very farlvrgsp wrote: Shadow, I have seen the Estate rounds around as well, been looking at giving them a try.....

Thanks for the offer on the 20 shells, but all I have is 12 guage's for now. Looking at adding a 20 here soon....just can't decide wheteh I want another O/U or a Semi.
Thanks,
Chip
Re: Winchester Super X Super Pheasant
you need a good laugh- right
my Citori has those short barrels- I use 7/8 oz 8 shot -skeet tubes- Britt goes on point- I step in from in front- rooster comes up cackling- how far do you think he makes it

Re: Winchester Super X Super Pheasant
I've killed just as many pheasants with Estates as with the Winchester, Federal & Fiocchis. The Estates seem to dirty up a semi-auto action a bit quicker.

Re: Winchester Super X Super Pheasant
I've tried 7-1/2s, nickle plated 7s and 6s, and copper-plated 5s and 4s. I like the 5s best.
I've got 10 boxes of 1-1/2 oz copper plated 5s for the trip this year.
Probably wouldn't go for the whomper stompers if the birds didn't typically flush wild where we hunt.

Re: Winchester Super X Super Pheasant
Chip- that would be getting into action pretty quick-
take a look at my post- Doves for breakfast- some call that a kids gun- it's sweet and comes up quick
it's all about waiting till the Britt's pin something- I like to step in watching the eyes- not much for shooting non pinned uplands
