I am looking to buuy a new shotgun and am looking at the Bennelli nova is it any good there are a lot of tused ones out there

Randy if what you are wanting is a good pump nova ranks up there with me.What are you going to hunt it with cause if you want a pump you can carry I'd probably say it is the lightest by far I have ever carried.Good gun they look like something off Star Wars for a storm trooper.I would make sure what ever it is you like the way it fits you.

The Nova is a decent gun but the best pump by far in my opinion is the Remington 870 Wingamster. Any new gun now should shoot steel shot, some choke tubes may be marked as "no steel shot" but almost any gun nowadays can handle steel shot.

Me think for the money the Nova is one of the best pup guns you can find. I have an older Browning BPS that I think is a bit smother than most but it also was more money. The 870 Wingmaster, nice gun but more coins..... There also is the 870 Express, I have seen them used by every walk of life and they too have held true as a good gun and a bit cheaper than the Nova.
I know a few people that swear by there Nova's, one of them is an Avid Duck hunter and the gun is always wet and muddy and still works..... Just Me two pennys.

I'll second what TAK said. Never shot one but have a lot of friends that think it is the best gun out there bar none.

I love my nova it is very light but yet stille doesnt kick that much ! I dont think you can buy a better gun then the nova for a pump! Only reason I bought a new gun is cause I wanted a o/u. I know you would enjoy the nova!

I like my Nova. Great pump gun. You can't go wrong with an 870 either. Maybe a used Browning BPS.

I would call those the 3 great pump guns.

A word of warning on a BPS though - you'll either need strong arms or you'll get 'em by carrying that baby through the pheasant fields/grouse woods. They are not light. Smooth, yes, but not my 1st choice for a full day of chasin' ND roosters. Bought one for my son and he's grown into it now, but the first year was a bit tough for him.

Holy is it just me or does everyone in the states shoot pump. Up here we r all about the semi autos. lol. Never shot a nova but i like the benellis a smooth shotting gun probaly a good choice. Nice thing about rems though it that u dont need any special tools to take them apart. JMO

Pumps are basic guns that are easy to repair if they have a problem and are very reliable.
Most guys I know started out wiht one, most guys I know have at least one 870 Rmington of some sorts.
The Remington 870 is like an old John Deere 4020, indestructable and they'll last forever. Plus they are a good looking gun and they are based on an old design that in my opinion is flawless!

My brother has the Nova and it is a smooth shooter. It's only downfall (IMO) is that it's UGLY. If you can get past that I think you'll like it.
I use a synthetic 870 in the duck blind that has never given me any problems and in a pinch it will double as a boat oar and still work great. My favorite pump (I'm a big fan of the pump gun) shotgun is my Ithica model 37 sweet 16 with a close second being my Winchester model 1897.

I got my BPS 12 years ago when I was 15, I have never looked back I have killed everything from quail to turkey and geese with it. Been very a good gun. Dont plan on ever getting rid of it. On the other hand a few friends of mine have gotten Novas over the past few years and if I were looking to get a new pump it would be hard to turn down. Go out and find the one that fits you best and that feels the best in your hands. There are several nice pumps around handle them all.

I to have an 870 express like it alot. a friend of mine bought his step son a nova for cristmas he likes it my friend said they were about the same price as the 870.
when I got to hold the gun it seemed to me that the nova had a shorter stroke than the 870 but it may have been the way the fore end is shaped

I haven't seen anyone mention the Mossbergs.

Bought my son a Nova 12 ge last year. He loves it, mainly cuz it looks COOL! I thought it shot and functioned nicely.

3 other shotguns in the house are a Win 1300 youth - too short for anyone in the house now - and a couple of Mossbergs. a 500 A 12 ge riot gun that I was able to get a birdshot barrel for. Man that thing is a lug to carry even if you don't load that 8 shot tube full.

My favorite by far is my 500C 20 ge. I use it for EVERYTHING that I hunt - birds, bunnies, tree rats, deer, etc. Light, quick handling, smooth operation. Phosphate finish on the metal, linseed oil on the wood. Get it wet, dirty, whatever - takes a lickin and keeps on tickin.

870's are kinda like the old standard - can't go wrong with one of those either.

The pumps that I've used and liked are the BPS and 870 express. I got the 870 so that I wasn't beating up my 20+ yr old bps in the marsh. I love the 870 because of the screw in chokes and track record. It's never failed me. The BPS swings better and I'm by far more accurate with it. It also has a 30 or 32 inch barrel and the Rem has a 28. I love longer barrels.

At one time I owned a Bennelli SBE for waterfowling but a friend made me an offer I couldn't refuse. It was way more than I paid for it so I sold it. Loved it and regret selling it. :crybaby: That was a nice swinging gun for me. All the Bennelli's swing and point very naturally for me. With the 870 I had to practice alot with it to be more accurate.

The last time I looked at shotguns and seriously considered buying one was just about the time the Nova was introduced to the shotgun world -- it felt great - came up smooth -- but talk about ugly!! I just couldnt pull the trigger so I bought a browning. My first reaction to seeing it was--- if this is the look of the future it will keep me buying used shotguns till my hunting career is over!

But I guess its like hunting behind an ugly hunting dog if it finds birds its not ugly anymore! It's all about performance!

Just think -- Some day mabe we'll all be hunting in an orange storm trooper outfit and carring a laser gun! (Man that Sucks!)

Hunted with both. I borrowed a friends nova just to try it out. I liked it. pretty good shooting. As far a a pump goes nothing beats a 870 Express. Its the AK47 of shotguns. you can throw it in the mud and water and still shoot. As stated before you can get them used and new in all forms for a fair price.

As stated before the Remington 870. I like the synthetic because at some point it will double as a boat oar. Ha. There is a reason it has been around so long. Never shot the benelli, I would reccomend a Beretta, very nice affordable, pretty smooth gun as well.

The Nova's a great pump. It is my backup chukar gun right behind the M2. I like it bettern the 870. Solid, light, and you can hunt geese with the same gun you shoot quail with.

I looked at the Novas and Stoegers, Stoegers being the cheaper you can feel it. Even though they are made about the same as the Nova you can tell the difference. Even between the Nova and Super Nova. I played around with all three and finally decided to stay with the Super Nova. Super smooth action and well made. It is worth the extra couple bucks to buy better quality. I haven't sold a gun I bought yet so figure might as well get one that is going to last.

My first shotgun was an 870 express 20 ga. My wife now turkey hunts with it and I love getting it out and shooting it even though I have a BPS Upland Special and a Benelli M1. I say 870 all the way!!!!

I've got a Nova to back up my SBE. However, the SBE never needs backing up, and the Nova was getting seriously depressed. So, I ordered a cantilever slug bbl for it to give it a purpose in life. It's a slug-slingin' machine.

I think the Nova is by far the best pump out there. (Don't flame me, please. I grew up w/ 870's.) And one thing that no one ever comments on is that the Nova comes in ONE configuration, and it shoots every 12 ga shell available. There is no Nova, NovaMag & NovaSuperMag. There's just one gun, and it eats everything.
