I saw this. She is absolutely spot on too. Chicago does have one of the toughest gun bans in the nation and last year had over 600 gun deaths, and I think over 2400 gun related crimes. The ban is really working out well for them, huh?

When a few people get arrested for DUI why don't they go after the auto's instead of the people who drove drunk?

I'm not sure that analogy works, because you can't ride your gun to work, the store, ie. the primary purpose of cars.

Guns are designed to go boom. That's all they do. That said, I like and own guns. They allow me to hunt effectively and humanely.

At the same time I wouldn't be opposed to installing some basic restrictions to prevent wackos from getting access to military grade munitions. After all, it was Reagan who signed into law the ban on the sale of fully automatic weapons. Ultimately I think by not engaging in any sort of restrictions we run the risk of getting them all taken away.

Just my opinion. I'll await the deluge.

Even a full auto takes some one to pull the trigger no different in my mind then any other gun, sounds like to me you are a closet anti from your response to several different subjects you have commented on.

Don't tell my guns I'm an anti.
Most NRA members are actually in favor of background checks: http://www.politifact.com/texas/stateme ... t-america/
And most gun owners are not members of NRA. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/won ... ing-shows/
3 second google search for that info.

I've got kids. I want them to hunt. I want to continue hunting as I've done in four different states. My wife is a teacher and her classroom has been in lockdown because some maniac was running around with a semi-auto. Somewhere between taking all the guns away and allowing all guns, all the time, to all people, there is room for some kind of rational balance. I'm not a communist, socialist, liberal, or even a Democrat. Just a regular dude with an opinion.

Well I am an NRA member & can't for the life of me understand why every one that believes in the right to own guns isn't a member even if the don't own any.
If every one were NRA members that believed in our right were members we wouldn't be fighting all the new restrictions proposed every day.
Read how gun crimes have declined over the yrs & are you aware that the states & cites with the most strict gun laws have the most crimes committed with guns?
Go live in one of those cities if you don't already!!

I'm not sure that banning handguns in cities is a good solution, either, and in fact lived in DC for 3 years when there was a handgun ban. But I haven't seen those studies you are talking about, can you share links for them? do they show where the illegal guns are coming from? If the data is there, I'm on board.

Personally I don't like the NRA because I believe there's a lot of reasonable room between no guns and no gun regs at all (their position).

The problem is the anti's don't think this way. Their belief is all or nothing and they won't stop until they take them all.

"Military" grade munitions, come on don't fall for this BS of believe that "military" style weapons are so dangerous. At one point muskets were "military" weapons!

That is exactly why we need the NRA,when you have one so far to the left you need another that far to the right to keep things on the even. They can pass all the laws & regulations they want because CRIMINALS don't pay any attention to them so they only hurt law abiding citizens or make them CRIMINALS!!

There definitely are a number of folks who want to take all guns, although I imagine they are in the tiny minority. And certainly, countering one extreme perspective with another is a viable political strategy. But it just seems to me we've had too much of that partisan stuff in Washington lately, and personally I long for some common sense middle ground, where I think most Americans find themselves. We are captive to the special interests on both sides and whatever projections they throw at us through the media. I hate it.

We don't need anymore un enforcible laws on the books we have TOO many now & they don't work if they did the jails wouldn't be full & we wouldn't be releasing criminals to make room for more.
You can't honestly tell me more laws will do what the ones we already do have can't.WAKE UP MAN!! But I see how you think by almost every post you have made.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but you also haven't made a case to me that some middle ground restrictions on background checks or something like that wouldn't help. Either way that looks like a beautiful gsp you have on your avatar. Looking for one myself. Happy hunting.

I saw this earlier in my google search, I think Australia did a semi-auto ban: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/won ... australia/

"So what have the Australian laws actually done for homicide and suicide rates? Howard cites a study (pdf) by Andrew Leigh of Australian National University and Christine Neill of Wilfrid Laurier University finding that the firearm homicide rate fell by 59 percent, and the firearm suicide rate fell by 65 percent, in the decade after the law was introduced, without a parallel increase in non-firearm homicides and suicides. That provides strong circumstantial evidence for the law's effectiveness."

Good post Ted. We already have a couple thousand gun laws on the books. All most of them do is restrict and harass the law abiding citizens. Decreasing violent crime has nothing to do with the agenda of the people on the left. They don't like guns period and will never be satisfied unless/until all firearm ownership is banned. They know they cannot accomplish this all at once, so they are trying to do it one step at a time. Thank God for organizations such as the NRA and the members or, IMO, the second ammendment would already be non existent.

If you guys don't play nice you're going to get banned. Where's Ezzy when you need him.

What's weird to me is here you have someone in front of you who isn't one of the "antis", a gunowner, a hunter, a father trying to teach the next generation to hunt, a link revealing that even a Frank Luntz poll showing most NRA members are in favor background checks, and yet you two continue to insist that anyone who wants background checks is a some kind of boogeyman/strawman/anti. Neither of you have offered any evidence besides your own opinions, and when asked to do so, claim to be too... something... to look it up. Good luck with that approach.

HyperB google gun homicide rate, don't fall off your chair when you see it's down 49% since 1993 but I'm sure you will come up with some kind of BS as you have on other subjects & posts.NOW I am done.MOVE TO AUSTRALIA!! & take your guns with you.

Oh & you might be surprised at who would be the most likely to be banned.

This is not about back ground checks and you know it. And there you go again...bashing the moderators. Nobody on here gets banned without good reason (following the rules we agreed to).

The Second Amendment has been the subject of one of the greatest pieces of fraud, I repeat the word 'fraud,' on the American public by special interest groups that I have ever seen in my lifetime.
