RIP Boomer

Post by original mngsp » Sun Dec 23, 2007 4:44 pm

Today I had to put down my 5 yr old GSP male WCK's Rolling Thunder SH aka "Boomer"

In his brief time we didn't accomplish all that I had hoped for but he taught me much about dogs, field trialing, and myself. I lost more than a dog today, I lost a great friend.

To an Athlete Dying Young
by A. E. Housman (1859-1936)

The time you won your town the race
We chaired you through the market-place;
Man and boy stood cheering by,
And home we brought you shoulder-high.

To-day, the road all runners come,
Shoulder-high we bring you home,
And set you at your threshold down,
Townsman of a stiller town.

Smart lad, to slip betimes away
From fields were glory does not stay
And early though the laurel grows
It withers quicker than the rose.

Eyes the shady night has shut
Cannot see the record cut,
And silence sounds no worse than cheers
After earth has stopped the ears:

Now you will not swell the rout
Of lads that wore their honours out,
Runners whom renown outran
And the name died before the man.

So set, before its echoes fade,
The fleet foot on the sill of shade,
And hold to the low lintel up
The still-defended challenge-cup.

And round that early-laurelled head
Will flock to gaze the strengthless dead,
And find unwithered on its curls
The garland briefer than a girl's.

Good night Boomer, may the rest of your times be 50 degrees, a nice breeze, and lots of birds. You'll be missed.

Sorry to hear of a loss of a companion specially when taken so early in life

Chris, I'm so sorry to hear the news. I only saw him run one time in a trial, but that was all I needed to see. What a beautiful, and elegant animal! I will always remember that. God bless you and your family.

I am a litle late on this one. I amsorry to hear this sad news. It is soo hard to say good bye to a good friend. He will be waiting at the bridge for you.
I'd rather live on the side of a mountain, than wander through canyons of concrete and steel.
