Women's Upland Vest?

Post by SeventhSon » Thu Aug 02, 2007 7:30 am

Well the wife has decided that she would like to accompany me on a few trips to the Pheasant fields this year (no way would I take her chukar or grouse hunting she would divorce me afterwards), so we've got a nice little 20 gauge pump ready for her but when we went to a few stores to find a vest we had no luck at all finding a woman specific vest.
Even the Men's medium (no smalls at any of the stores but plenty of XXL's, are we really THAT big gentlemen?) were WAY too big for her.
I see that Cabelas does have Women's line of Upland gear, but I wanted to hear from anyone that may have some experience regarding a GOOD vest made for women.

While they are not made specifically for a woman, they have them in a very small size that would probably be just the ticket and they are running some Specials right now.

Me and my wife both got a carry light jacket with removable sleeves from Pella. It is not made in America I think china. That didn't seem to affect the price. It is still nice to wear as you can adjust the load.

My wife wears a medium vest and I have an xx large. Since they are worn over your winter clothing I want them big and that isn't a problem when its warmer. That is at least one size bigger than we would need if it wasn't for the heavy clothing.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Get her one that doesn't make her butt look big or she'll never hunt with you again. There's two hints.

My wife likes her Blaze Orange vest we got at Farm King for 25 dollars. Does everything that she wants or needs. I wear the same vest as do several of the kids. They are good quality, bright orange, and cheap. My last one lasted for 30 years and if this one does I just don't think I will buy another one.

Thanks for the help, after talking to a few people we decided to try the new OmniHeat from Columbia, it should be here next week, and we will see how it does.

I'm a little late with this but I'd thought I'd throw in my suggestion. I have a nice vest from She Safari. You can buy women's upland clothes directly from their website or I believe Ugly Dog carries their brand as well. It's nice gear and it fits great.

Looks like the vest is on sale right now too.

This is what I have and I love it. The price hurts a little but once in a while you can catch them on sale. Good luck!

There is no way I would buy a vest that isn't a front loadeer for the game bag. I do not want to take the vest off everytime I use it. Looks a little heavier than my 25 dollar one too which I don't like.

It is fairly heavy but I like that. It's tin cloth and is basically indestructible. I don't have to take it off because the openings in the back are easily accessible by just putting my hand behind my back. Personal preference I suppose. I also picked it up in the spring about half off and have been real happy with it.

I have a Cabela's strap vest which I have used for the past 8 years for dog training and hunting, but there is an adjustment buckle on the strap which would not interfere with gun mount if one were 6 feet tall and male; however, it does cause a problem for a 5'6" tall woman. I had the local shoe repair sew the strap at the correct length, and eliminate the buckle. I also have gone to using a filson half vest which I love, but miss the wonderful pockets on my strap vest. If strap vests had the adjustment buckles on the back of the vest, it would be a better configuration for women and youths. Ditto for bib waders-the buckles are a nuisance for gun mount.
