Garmin Collars Length of Life

Post by ddoyle » Sat Apr 10, 2021 11:56 am

Folks,

How long do you all expect to get out of collar with everyday use?
I bought Garmin Delta UPLAND XC Remote Training Collar with Beeper in April of 2018. Starting to have problems. Do you guys then just buy new? Called collar clinic before and seems by time of shipping back and forth and repair cheaper to buy a replacement. Thoughts?

ddoyle:
I don't know what collar comes with your Delta Upland. I had several pt10 collars with my field 70 that malfunctioned. Garmin replaced them all. The only expense to me was sending the transmitters back. I was amazed that they did that. They were well past the warranty. Some had been hanging on my wall for a year or two. the rep said send them all. I don't know if they had issues with certain models or what. I have had no problem with the replacements. They are 3 years old now and are used daily. The collar straps are crap though.
I would definitely call customer service.
Not sure but I don't think collar clinic repairs Garmin........Cj

Thanks for the replies. I just wanted to be sure I was being realistic. They have moved to a spot in price where spending $75 for repair all in seems foolish if you can track down a new one on sale.

I have an astro 220 and dc-40 new from 2008, still kicking. Changed battery on dc-40 and also the strap. Garmin delta from 2013 no problems, holds a charge for days. Almost daily use on the garmin delta and around 100-125 days a year with the GPS unit.

So I have 3 dogs and use the collars almost daily, often 2x a day for short periods. Collars are crap and have to be replaced well before the electronics. Now that being said I noticed after some time the collars lose the lower settings, say 4 and under.

I think the real "cost" of using the Garmins figuring replacing collars and electronics is reasonable.

Regarding the collar itself. I have had great luck with a GunDog Supply they have K-9 Komfort Tuffflex 3/4" I grounded them down and ran the throw. They are holding up great and you can get better sizing. Also will add a name tag so great to have all on one collar. Garmin is replacing the collar for $84.00

Doyle I believe you meant "ground them down and ran them through the receiver. " ?
