G3 Upland

I am thinking about purchasing this model and i was wondering about range. I hunt a lot of grouse in northwest wisconsin dont know how the cover will effect it. Any other info about would be greatly appreciated. thnx

The cover will certainly affect the range, but I think it will give you all the range you need. You shouldn't use it when your dog is out of sight anyway. JMO

I have one and didn't feel comfortable with the range here in the grouse woods, which is very similar to where you will be going.

I bought the G2 Upland on a closeout last year and love it. It looks like they still have a few left at a real good price: http://www.tritronics.com/g2sale.asp

IMO, when running in the grouse woods you need at least a 1 mile collar with pointing dogs. It's not that they will run a mile but you will get at least 600 yards out of that collar, while with the G3 1/2 mile, you are really only going to get 200-300 yards. If you are like me you don't notice you need it until they get 200 yards out and then you are risking it.

I've never been limited on range through the thickest of Northwoods coverts with my G3 Upland.
Easy to use and the ability to add another 2 collars... love it!
