Hard to do that, no good wireless coverage. Someone said you can go to the library in Eureka, they have wifi. But they are also 20 miles away from the grounds, roughly.

Check www.gspca.org, they post on and off.

Just got back and the cover is higher than usual. Lots of Broomweed. The braces I watched were having lots of unproductives. Its supposed to rain wednesday and then be nice for the rest of the week. They have not been posting dogs. I run in the 30th which should run late morning or after lunch.

Only ran one brace today. Heavy rain and storms went thru most of the day. Will start the 25th brace in the morning. High winds with possible storms in the afternoon for thursday. Should run my brace before lunch if I'm lucky.

Amateur Gun Dog runs all this week. Usually finishes on Saturday, but with a one day weather delay, it might be Sunday. They are running the First Series.

They had estimated that the am. would finish Fri., that was before yesterday's delay, so depending on how things go today starting w/25 they will run approx. 12 a day so will have a few to finish on Fri. Don't know if they will draw the second series at lunch fri. and start afternoon and finish Sat. or just hold off all second series until Sat. and that too will depend on how far they get to. I hope to talk to Robbi again tonight and see where they are, we are leaving tomorrow afternoon and going out for the Hall of Fame induction dinner Sat. and watch Sat. running and some Sun. morning.

Ran Kate this morning and had 2 finds and a real good race. They killed for her and all was well. The should have about 5 braces friday and then draw for the 2nd series and start in the afternoon. Scenting conditions were much better today. Got about 3 inches of rain on wednesday.

Anyone know when this will conclude? I know they had weather delays and what not but on average when do they usually finish? The resaon I am asking is that my trainer is out there with my dog (my dog is not running though) but I am running her in the NGSPA Pheasant Ch in Wye Island on Nov 3rd....just hoping he'll be back in time. He has to stay in Eureka to run other dogs in the Open Gun Dog, which is at the end so that's why I'm concerned.

That is an issue Remmy, and the reason the Am. and Derby run first at the Pheasant - to give the pros some time to get there.

Right now, my guess is that the All Age will conclude about next Friday, which gives them Sat. - Wed. to get the 38 braces of OGD in. Usually it is tight, but the timing works out. It is at least 2 days to Wye Island though, and maybe three.

I'll tell you with the conditions they had on Saturday the dogs had their hands full. Dry, very warm, and very windy. We rode most of Saturday and Sunday including seeing Willow's RU performance. She's a very nice dog I've seen, competed against, and judged on several occasions. She did a nice job on Saturday, and Her owners deserve to be proud.

All of the dogs that punched the wind and had multiple finds on Saturday really worked hard.

Had similar conditions with the early braces of the futurity but at least some clouds to keep the ground from heating up so fast and at least a little humidity to hold some scent. Eldon had a pup that ran extremely well early but went birdless, Long's three pups did some very good work, and nice finds as did a few of the others but with the better conditions for Today through Wednesday I would not be at all surprised to see the winner and RU coming from the last few days running.

That's field trialing though and you run'm on the day you draw, hope for the best, and deal with the rest.

Good luck to the dogs yet to run and congrats to all those that made it worth the trip just to watch.CR
There's a reason I like dogs better'n people

Looks like about 7 braces left of futurity, and they are planning on starting the All Age tomorrow afternoon. Didn't get an update on who had done what. We were there for Sat. running of Am. rode Millie's brace, but didn't see all of her run, as we stayed with Mark and Kate, but what I did see she was doing well. Don said 30 years and this was the first national title. He had the trophy on the dash of the motorhome! We stayed Sun. and watched the futurity start, watched some really nice dogs go birdless, get lost, and a couple nice dogs with birds. Should be interesting to see what happens in the end.
Anyway, AA possibly starting tomorrow afternoon. Will make me nervous Buck is in the third brace! Kess doesn't run until 17.

This weekend would be tough but we are heading out again on 11/2 for 3-4 days and a couple stowaways might be workable.

A years worth of anticipation waiting for Eureka to finally get here...... 3 months without our dog while he conditions and trains 2 states away for this once a year opportunity......... 2 mins into the 1 hour brace and......... it's all over, shutdown, end of story, fini .  ........Chuckers

Now I'm glad I stayed home. But hey, pretty sure that in those first 2 minutes we had the thing won.

Oh boy, I can't wait for next year next year. I used to think I was a somewhat balanced and rational person,,,,,but now have my doubts :?

Things have been quiet. Any other news, good .....or preferably bad, maybe a dog that crashed in the first 30 seconds? ?

Lot's of top notch dogs still left to run.... and crash  Only kidding.

Best of luck to all those who are still in it!!

........Chuckers
Those ain't chukars - not even close! :)

That's too bad Rodger - we've all been there. We made it 16 seconds with one dog at the Sharptail!! You know, we all know, your dog can do it, it's just the way it goes sometimes! :)
Any other news, good .....or preferably bad
Good - just spent 4 days hunting with my dad, sharpie limits on two of 'em
Bad - two days hunting with my dad scoring two big gooseeggs! Managed to let my transmitter charge down to where it wouldn't transmit and Bugsy broke and chased a sharpie after managing to bump it from the backing position not letting my dad get a good shot over his dogs nice work (I'm so proud of my FT dogs!!) Gotta go back to work tomorrow and take my board re-certification exam next week. How much bad is it gonna take? This enuff?

What, not indeginous wild birds?? Cmon.

Sorry bout your gooseegg, but would still trade with ya. Knowing you have an exam to cram for does help a little though :P

GSP, I wasn't there to personally witness the disappointment, but apparently birds were in the air and both dogs were in hot pursuit. They chased. They should have stopped at the flush to exhibit proper manners. No manners in this case. I had also heard that after that incident they took a commercial break to clear out some pesky birds from the front of the course. Timing could have been better. We prefer a groomed course if at all possible.

Ah man, thats the pits! Yeah, dont even want any bird contact in that event for a good 10-30 minuets at least i would think. Let the AA dogs make some moves. Sorry to hear that.

At least he didn't blow his pads!

Best I could come up with,

(btw, as Brath sometime about how he drove 14 hours out west once to see Checkmate's White Smoke and someone else, possibly Savage Sam) braced together. They both ripped and chased in the first 30 seconds of the brace. Pretty funny story)

A good day hunting with your awesome canine buddy trumps the latter by far - the really cool stuff happens there!! Won't need to remind the hunting buddies of anything when they see it firsthand!!

Doug, Have you run any dogs at Eureka since Rocky. I was at the fururity when he went RU and Hud's litter mate Libby was 3rd. Rocky was a nice one for sure. I remember reading in the AF, where he wore out a bunch of pointers.

Personally I've never been to the Eureka trials. I probably wouldn't have ever sent a dog but I've had a couple that were futurity nominated and I promised to enter them when I bought 'em. I sent my Bugsy dog with Dan last year for the futurity...I never really asked how he did but figured he must not have won anything or I'd have probably heard about it!

I'm not real interested in going to the trial itself for the dogs but would really enjoy going to meet the GSP folks!! If it was in the spring or a wild bird trial, I'd make time for sure. Prying my rear end out of Idaho from October thru January is a tough chore - almost as tough as prying one of my dogs away from me to send for the training necessary to compete there!! I've hated it everytime I had a dog miss the whole sharptail season sitting on a stake out in Kansas just so they could run for a half hour or hour.

The last time Rocky went back to Eureka with Dan, I worked him myself all summer and kept him right thru the first day of the sharptail season so I could try and bag one over him. I can still see it plain as day, found him on a nice find in some wide open windy CRP, two birds flying pretty quick dead down wind and I missed twice!! Never got another chance at a sharptail with him. Just the way life goes sometimes. No regrets.

I agree. You've got a beautiful place up there in Idaho. If I had your setup up and trials conflicted with the hunting season, I'd choose the later, hands down.

Thanks for sharing that about Rocky.

I hope you and your dad have many good hunts this season. Those are the times you never forget and are truly special. My dad just turned 84 this past summer and I we still manage a couple of weekends in deer camp each year. We always have a great time and a lot of laughs.

If you get a chance to post some more pics of those hunts, please do. I never get tired of looking at the scenery up there. :D

I can't wait to see the AA results. Especially with John Steiger judging. His qualifications for an AA dog are quite different than some of the past AKC judges, as he has more of the AF type of AA expectations. Im voting for Flash and or Cowboy. Flash has sired both of my currents dogs, and Cowboy is due. Good luck to all,................... but come on Flash! P.S. , both dogs are from my neck of the woods so im a little biased, I know Nuke and Moon and many others will be tough to beat. Plus, Flash is getting up there in age. I wish i was there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :x Good luck to everyone who is running!

Nuke's not running and not sure why? I agree, it'll be interesting, but both judges will have to come to terms on placements. If any placements were to be withheld, it would be the first time in about 7 years I believe.

I know for the past few years Buck has performed well on those grounds and Cutter too. Also the only ones that have been clean, but that news is two days old.

The GSPCA web site always seems to start out strong on information, but once again has died down. That's disappointing. IMO Windwalker always kept more current.

I suspect that a lot folks that have dogs in it are reading this thread, but if their's ran well won't dare jinx anything by commenting. One nice thing about bombing early is no more anxiety wondering what the judges think. Just sit back and watch everyone else sweat it out, and believe me there’s a lot of that going on right now. Just listen to the crickets.

I heard Nuke had a possible career ending injury earlier this year...ACL or something with his leg. Not sure if he will recover enough where he may be able to run again.

I would think the AA should be finished by now or finishing up soon? The GSPCA website is dissapointing...starting off strong with information and then dieing out like you said.

That's unfortunate. His pups are sure showing promise though, as they took 3 of 4 futurity placements.
