Growth in GSP Field Trialing

Post by Wagonmaster » Tue Mar 20, 2007 8:36 am

GSP field trialing is enjoying one of its best years ever. The National German Pointing Dog Assoc. Championships, also known as the "All Breed," was nearly killed off in '92 when the USF&WS, in a purely political move, started a prescribed burn on the trial grounds during the trial, forcing cancellation.

However, the trial has been on new grounds in Pinckneyville, IL for several years. This year, the National German Shorthaired Pointer Assoc. decided to run its Region 5 Championships back-to-back with the All Breed. The result was 150+ entries in the All Breed, at least as good as back in the pre-'92 heyday of the event.

This has led, for better or worse, to a surfeit of riches. The Great Plains Championship starts this coming Monday, and normally, many of the pro handlers, amateurs and dogs from All Breed would be moving to Kansas for the GPC. However, the All Breed will be running over its normal schedule by at least a week, and some dogs are not going to get to the GPC in time.

The name "All Breed" refers to the fact that the NGPDA Championships are open to any of the four continental breeds, GSP, GWP, Vizsla, Weim., they need only be registerest FDSB.

A good problem to have.

Allbreed

John

Would love to get any piece of the "allbreed", have entries for the open and the amateur shooting dog and we are in Brace 30 and may go tomorrow. They did 8 braces the 1st day and will push hard to get done, all of that really beats the judges up. Long days in the saddle, eating in the saddle, etc. Was chairman of the allbreed for a lot of years I was.

Will run LB and then probably scratch him in the amateur as a lot of other's will and head west to Eureka. The grounds in Eureka are just so much better. Heading to Eureka on Saturday moring regardless of what is going on in Southern Illinois.

Looks like the hawks are pretty nasty in Pinckneyville as we saw a lot of hawk kills in the 2 trips there.

The allbreed grounds they are on now are better than the hunt club but still need a lot of work puting in objectives and such.

The first day Sunday we went through so many because dogs were just crashing, they had 5 braces done before 12:00 and ran 3 after lunch, they stopped for about an hour, from my understanding the same thing happened Monday. At this pace they may make the Great Plains Championship. Very long days in the saddle.
