I dont get it
I tryed gettign one of my dogs entered in a FT but could not get ahold of the Secretary because AKC had the wrong phone # listed. When I did finnaly get ahold of the secretary he told me that he cannot enter a dog over the phone. He said it said so on the premium.
How do I get these premiums?
I have to work for a living and I have to adjust my personal stuff around work. I never know If I am going to be able to make a 6-10 or even 12 hour drive to make it to a FT so sometings have to be done at last minuet. Now granted I have only been to a couple local trials and one out of town (a 5 hour drive that took 12 hours thanks to a winter storm) I had been planning on attending many this spring and have yet to make one.
Why cant clubs be more lienent on some folks? Seems thay are always complaining about never gettign enough of a turnout.
Is there a mailing list I can get on to get all the right information so I can get my dog entered in these FT's?
I am not going cause I am not goign to make the 6-8 hour drive and show up to just watch while on a sour note. I am a little bitter over the whole situation. I was really looking foward to it.
So what am I supposed to do for the future trials?

AKC has a listing of all of the trials they sponsor on their site and I think a copy of the premiums also.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!
Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

I have been going thru the same thing. It is not like dog shows, if you show in one or sign up for mailing list, you auto get all the Prem's for your area. If you wait for a FT premium to comeout it might be full by the time you get your entry in
If you don't get on the AKC Events and download the premium, or print off blank forms from "downloadable forms" part then you might not get in. You have to check the schedules and posted FT'S or Hunt Tests and take it upon yourself to get the stuff in..I have also found things to be wrong on the AKC site, one had the OGD closed to certain breeds, when I spoke to the chairman later, she said, "Oh it was open to all breeds, they must have had it printed wrong." Ughhh..

The simplest thing is to keep a premium from a past trial and use that to enter any trials where you have not received the club's premium. You can cross out any info that does not apply.
What the club is concerned about is not that you use their particular premium form, but that they get a completed premium from you, signed by you, and most importantly, that they get a check. Clubs get stiffed all the time, they accept a telephone entry and put the dog in the drawing but then the dog does not show and neither does the check, or worse yet, the dog shows and runs but does nothing, and the owner leaves without paying. Sometimes they get phone in entries for a whole string, then hit their number limit for the trial and close entries, then the string does not show.
Trials are not a big money maker for the club. Something like a whole string not showing can sink the trial financially. They need to protect themselves.
But if you keep a blank form and fill it in, you can eliminate the problem. I fill one in with the repeatable info., such as dog's name, reg. #, DNA #, etc. and then just make xerox copies to have around. Then fill in the trial name, the stakes you are entering etc., sign it and you are good to go.
Here is a link to a good AKC entry form. AF clubs, such as the NGSPA, will accept this also, in fact it is the form I use to enter all non-AKC trials my dogs run in. http://www.akc.org/pdfs/AFN999_1003.pdf
Sorry if the Field Trial Secy was less than helpful. Sometimes they are new to the job and don't know what to do. And they are not able to separate the trustworthy from the untrustworthy over the phone, so just set a blanket rule.
Lastly, Casper, you are in Utah are you not? If you wish, I can connect you with the core group of Utah trialers who would be glad to help you get the info. you need. They will take care of you. Let me know.
Oops. Nevada I see. I think the Utah people can help you there also, if you would like.

John someone in Northern California would be much better. I have met Bill Tanner he was very helpfull before maybe I should contact him.
What confuses me is the trials I entered last year I was able to phone them in. WHen I got to the trial I found the secretary and filled out the proper forms.
This sec. was more of the attitude of "I should have known better"
I am not seeing anywhere there is a printable premium

Since I started running hunt tests, I downloaded a HT Premium in MS Word format and keep it on my computer. All the info is already typed in, and I even inserted a picture of my signature that I scanned in. All I do is open it, change the venue information, print it and mail it off. Takes two minutes that way.

Here is a link to blank documents copied from the AKC entry form. I too use pre-filled in versions and just change the top event info.

Hey Casper - I feel your pain. I hate the "no phone entries" deal because you still have to call to make sure your entries got in. Twice I didn't call, just sent in my entries and went. When I showed up they told me my entries were too late and I had just wasted a weekend and 6 hours of driving!! AKC trials. Don't get me started down this road again!!
American Field trials in our parts are much more lax, entries can be phoned in right up to the deadline typically and you can plan ahead a little better.
I can get you names of a few people in your immediate area that do AF trials and a super nice fellar in N. California that'd have the scoop on all the AKC going's on.

Typically, everybody shows up for the NGSPA Championships (which are also AF), and then they put their entries in the night before each stake. The stake is drawn in public and run until it is completed. Then people put in their entries for the next stake, it is drawn, and so on. However, it is worth it for a GSP to try to get that FC if possible, fairly early. It qualifies the dog to run in all broke dog stakes in the GSPCA National Championship, for life. And also qualifies the dog to run in all NGSPA championships, with the sole exception of the National Championship (the All Age stake), which has its own requirements.
It does take a little time to get on everyone's mailing list, and find out who the people are that you need to get info. from. Once you are there, though, you will be receiving premiums for the next 10 years.

Just another thought, is to call the clubs in the areas that you are interested in their trials and get on their mailing lists. I get quite a few of them by e-mail. Some of them I have never been too.
Its too bad that you had a bad experience with the secretary. Hard to say, sometimes folks just have a bad day and don't mean to convey that to others.
