Seems like the weather at Booneville is always a big issue Scott. Sure hope everyone is okay, personally do not care for the place at that time of the year.

There should be more common sense in charge. Not the run at all cost, even if you get struck by lightning. It was not fun ride back to camp.

A horse got killed not 1/2 mile from where we were on course 2. It could of easily been one of us as the horse.

There needs to be some guidelines set in place. Not just what the judge thinks. Even with the lightning strikes right on top of us, one of the judges wanted to continue like it was no big deal. Being tough is not the point.

I did ride in the rain during the morning braces. I watched Dean Crabbs run his dog Lonewolf' Hauchuca Jake during the rain on Sunday, and the dog did a great job despite the rain. Judges were very attentive to what the dogs were doing.
Didn't get to watch Aussie this time, but I have watched her several times, and she is a great dog.
Congrats to the Gulledge team and the Richardsons for winning with Aussie, and Dean Crabbs with runner up with Jake.

It was mentioned that there may have been day(s) that may or may not have had birds released, I was wondering a few thing.

Is the NGSPA responsible for getting the birds used for the event or does the State provide the birds?

With three one hour courses that are used for the morning and afternoon braces, are birds planted/released on each course each day, bird put out for the morning braces and then replenished for the afternoon braces?

Are there bird planters riding putting out birds or is this something the State takes care of each day ?

The birds are obtained by the State with half being paid for by NGSPA. The state plants the birds the evening before. The plant is initially 300 birds than 60 birds each night before with 20 birds per course. This year the Association purchased an extra hundred birds to be planted before the OAA and the OSD. Fifty for each. I hope this answers your question

I assumed that there was a protocol in place so that every dog has equal opportunity to have game contact.

That's field trialling, it's the luck of the draw which course you get what the weather is like, as a course that had allot of bird work one day may not the next dependinding on the wind and scenting condiontions each day. Ya pay your entry hope your dog shows the judges something and if not you move on to the next trial and try to win that one.

I do understand the luck of the draw, luck of what course you draw etc. Been There done that!

No, both will be in the derby. Don't want them running for too long until summer camp is over. I think Tac and jax will be in all age and gun dog stakes on the weekend trials though.

Just a quick note to clarify how bird planting was handled. Initial release of 300 BW Quail on Friday before the Amateur National Championship started. 120 released the night before the start of each of the remaining stakes (Futurity, National Championship and National Shooting Dog Championship). In addition, 60 birds were released each night that there was not an initial release. No daily braces were run without benefit of a bird release (300, 120 0r 60). The AR Fish and Game did all the bird releasing. The birds were released at 20 sites for each of the three one hour courses. A total of 1100 Quail were released. The birds are purchased by the Fish and Game and the NGSPA is billed for 50% of the cost. The release sites were established by the AR Fish and Game personnel based on their expertise and intimate knowledge of the grounds and were chosen for their ability to hold the birds simulating wild coveys and to reward dogs that got out of the horse tracks and hunted.

The AR Fish and Game Personnel (Brad Wells, Red and Adrian) worked hard and are to be commended for the fine job they are doing to improve the grounds.
