Yikes, a $50 Open Puppy entry fee!! Not picking on you guys alone, kinda was figuring entries were gonna be needing to go up to keep pace with all the expenses.

Is Tiffany going to be there? That may help if someone thinks that the entry fee is too high. :D

Yeah, unfortunately, putting on trials is not getting cheaper.

What's the difference between a puppy and derby? Either one, you get 20% of a FC with a win. So to me they are equal minus 10 mins. and a bird.

$50 in the grand scheme of a 8 - 10 year field trial career will be unnoticeable.

The cost of an extra $15 bucks on enticing a newbie to the sport? Priceless

A puppy stake at a walking trial is about the best chance to hook a new one.

Agreed on the hooking of a puppy runner. Mine was in a derby stake in 2008. Now I run NSTRA with one, and horseback with another. I quit looking at price and figuring total cost years ago. Nobody would start and stay if they really worried about it. It's just the cost of a fun hobby.

This makes me think you should be in Washington DC. $15 dollars is a heck of a lot when the baby needs formula or the kids need something for school or you only have $10 left in your pocket.

Lots of guys get in, take years off to raise kids, then get back in later. It's not a cheap game and I doubt it will get cheper. I hope things do go down in price, but realistically, I doubt it. If we are willing to pay $6 per quail, the breeders will continue to raise prices because they know we will pay it. Non-profit clubs can't afford to not pass along the increasing costs.

Your example is exactly whats wrong with our society. If thats your situation, why are you thinking about going to a field trial anyway!! Feed your "bleep" kids or buy em something for school.

Guys, I don't think not having the money ever made anyone to stop thinking about it. And you are right, too many today spend a lot they don't have. I didn't have that chance even if I had wanted it, because credit cards were not around back then.

I get tired of always hearing the cost of a pup or the cost of an entry fee is nothing compared to the other costs . It may be true but these little costs do add up and can be as much of a deal breaker as some bigger cost when money is tight.

i wish mine were old enough to run!

Why sit here and and complain the price? If you don't like it don't go. If you want a discussion about prices create a new topic. Don't post it to an individual trial's post. It's not fair to them trying to put on a trail. At least their having one for you all to go to.

Can't say enough how nice this group is. We've only attended 2 trials ever, both puppy in 2010, and this was our 1st and a good place to get started at. Super nice folks, answered all our questions, and made sure a first timer didn't feel like a first timer. Considering we'd never even watched a trial before, that meant a lot. Heck, I think Jon even met us at the car, and introduced himself. :D

Not sure yet on my schedule, but I might come down to walk in the gallery, if that's okay. It'd be nice to see what the higher levels require and maybe snap a few photos along the way.

Would love to Mark, but Lincoln is almost 6 hours away, being that I'm pretty much on the absolute opposite side of the state. Salem is only 2 hours. Seems like fuel cost is always the deciding factor. :x

These dogs need to get some commercial gigs or something going, to start paying their way!

Denise....

Thanks much for your compliments to the Iowa Brittany Club folks who work hard to put on this walking field trial every spring in Salem, Iowa. We're glad to know you felt welcome and enjoyed your first trial.

Yes indeed, you can walk in the Gallery at the IBC's Walking Trial and even snap photos if you want, whether you have a dog in the trial or are a visitor. Should be a good time.....Hope to see you there and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to let us know!
