It is nice to get updates for those of us frozen in up north.

Keith and Robbi left this morning. I will head down a day before the ASD starts. That will depend on how many Shooting Dogs they draw.

Con, Keith and Bobbi Richardson, wins OGD. Congrats to Dennis and Keith and Bobbi. Tejas Bandit's Southern Belle takes second in puppy stake at 9 mos. of age finishing behind a 14 mo. Bodenstabb pup that is already ready Derbies. Conditions were very bad for dogs in OGD early sat. morning. Only one dog ( Boy ) out of the first three braces had a bird.

Nell, Haylee Killam wins AGD ( I was braced with her and this dog did an excellent job. 4 finds and a back. the last find was exceptional. ) Joe Indermann's dogs were 2nd and 3rd with a Killam dog palcing 4th. Don't know the results from the OLGD yet.

Has the quail championship started yet? Wondered if anyone had a running order but maybe Robbi will post it up later.

It was this past weekend...

Are there any updates on the results? I wanted to go soooooo bad but we had to make a trip to the in-laws instead!

The NGSPA Quail Championship is supposed to start Wednesday at the Lake Murray Field Trial Grounds near Ardmore Oklahoma. Several of the same people are involved that put on the Lone Star AKC weekend trial that ran prior.

At the championships, they draw the night before so it is a little harder to publish for those of us watching from the web.

Bill,

I heard that Bandit fell in love with a coyote and they ran off with each other and they are are now living a happy life in some burrow.

I have heard nothing me boy. You know Dennis, he only calls when there is good news.

There was something like 44 or 45 dogs drawn for the OSD. Because the trial has to be done by the middle of next week, they were going to try and get 7-8 braces done a day, starting at 7:30am if I remember correctly. Doesn't leave much time for chit chat.
You know Dennis, he only calls when there is good news.
The call I got Monday was that my dog didn't go anywhere in the Limited because he was too busy hunting armadillos. Sometimes the "no news unless it's good news" plan isn't so bad!

Ahh, but did he find that coyote? Dave, I think Sunny had the first find on an armadillo and then the rest of the string fell in line.

Shooting dog at the Quail should about be wrapped up. There were two braces to be run this morning. There were 46 entrants in the Shooting Dog with 30+ expected for the amateur. I will try to announce placements later today.

Congrats Dave, Dennis, Eldon, Haylee,
Big accomplishment for such a young dog, I'm sure more to come. Best thing about it is I get to hunt grouse and woodcock over the big fella, great grouse dog. Again congrats

Congrats to all, is it true the top two had like 8 or 9 finds each ? Obviously birds were a plenty.

Jerry,
Not sure if each dog had 8 or nine each but did talk to Dave last night, I believe he said GTex had 4 or 5 finds and a nice SD race, and from what he told me Tex and his bracemate were back and forth with finds, sounded like one to see, so I would say between the 2 they had 8 or 9 together.

A big thank you to each of you that posted, emailed or called. It made this cold Chicago weekend much more tolerable. I didn't trial last fall, so this was the first time we turned him loose in an hour stake since last April. I just hoped he would be down for the hour so we could see where he was at. I had NO expectations that he'd win a 46 dog stake, especially since how rough the weekend trial went.

Of course the credit needs to go to Dennis Brath & Gary Hansen of Cadens Kennels, and Pat Waresk who has scouted Tex since he was a pup. And of course to Hayley Killam who bred Tex's litter (and owns Albert, the r/u), and to John Rabidou whose work through the decades has resulted in so many quality dogs. Special thanks to the Texas crew; the Tomlinson brothers and the crew in Comanche who keep an eye on my pup and keep me in the loop.

Karl, you should be proud; a Bubba grandson winning with a Bubba son taking r/u.

Joe, yes this is my first hour CH.

In the absence of photos from the grounds, here's a few from last fall.

Congratulations to Dennis, Dave and Tex on winning the OSD. I rode Tex's brace and he did an excellent job.

Also congratulations to Eldon and the Killams on their RU placement.

I believe the are going to cancel the All Age due to the weather that is coming in. Several people are going to hunker down there and ride out the storm. I hope the weathermen are off on their predictions.
