It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!
Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

I am a little sheepish. That is his 12th Championship win and he is still 5. Thanks everyone.
Will report on the Derby and OSD as soon as I hear. We are not running Spot in the OSD. He had a slight injury while on vacation this year, tweaked right small toe. So we don't want to overwork him. Bigger trials yet to come.

congrats John
I read recently on another board that you just have kind of gotten lucky with everyone elses hard work of breeding.
I use to own a dog out of FC Dixieland's Luke and Moesgaards Lady Jackie. I noticed that a full blood sister was in Spot's pedigree. I'm not sure if my dog was a littermate to this dog or just a full blood brother. I bought that dog from Bob Merkle in the 1st part of June 1993. What a dog. He did it all. I never did trial him but I think he would of done real well. My dogs name was Dixilands Jamaica Jake. I hunted 10 years behind him and have never owned a dog that held a candle to him. Believe me I have tried.
I currently have some pups in my kennel that might come close I hope. It's so unfortunate that many of us have great dogs, but don't realize it until their gone. I think "Spot is a once in a lifetime dog" Enjoy him while you can!!
Has "Spot" produced any litters? If so what do his Pups look like?
Marc

Just Chardonnay Bruce. I am saving the single malt for when you or Jennings show up at one of the Championships. Or anyone else I know for that matter. People show up all the time, so you better hurry or it will be gone.
Marc I think you and I corresponded awhile ago and I remember you had a Merkel dog. Bob was a friend and ran my first ever trial dog for me for awhile, we used to hunt together and I hunted over Luke. A very nice dog. You are right, I owe alot to breeders who went before me. But there is also a knack to pickin the right ones. We are working on the next "dog of a lifetime" right now. Not born yet, but we are working on it. Spot is young, he was bred twice when he was two, but one was a hunter's female and I don't know about those pups. The other litter was out of a gun dog female, and produced some very nice looking pups, one finished his FC at just two years of age last spring. Since then, Spot has been working pretty hard and on the circuit all the time, so hard to catch up to him to breed. Some breedings are happening now though, so we will see.

John, big congrats! Spot started where he left off last year...and he is only five! I wish I could have seen him run in Wye Island. I heard he was something else!
I'm sure there are a lot of people looking to breed to Spot since last year, including myself. I may consider breeding Bell within the next two years. We'll see. I'll touch base with you later.
Good luck this spring and hope to see you in Wye Island in the fall!

No, I don't think I will get to the All Breed. Spot will be there. I go to the Nationals, and that is at least a week. Then I like to go to the Great Plains, and later in the spring to the Region 9 to see Doug Favor and his friends. Not enough time to go to the All Breed.
We always have a bottle or two of the good stuff around camp. There is something or other to celebrate most of the time, even if it is just that we are together again and enjoying the fresh air and laughter. Anybody who wants some is welcome to come over.
