A limit on the strap is nice, but the kill has nothing to do with tradition.

Re: AKC trial at Dresden OH
Dan it was pretty miserable,I was only there Sat.The humidity was in the high 70's to high 80's & wore the dogs, horses, judges, handlers out.Chris went through 5 different horses & most the dogs were shot soon after the breakaway.
The 1st & 2nd place OGD dogs ran the last 2 braces of the day around 6 in the evening after the sun, temps, & humidity dropped some.It wasn't much fun but that's trialing, you run what you brung in what ever conditions you have & settle with the end results.

Luck of the draw....who scratches because of the conditions. Can't blame anybody that scratched, it is, after all only a weekend deal....Yeah, ya spent the money to get there, but it just isn't worth hurting a dog over.
I've been there once....I think I'd really enjoy the place....in the spring. I hear it's a jungle in the fall. Has the lack of rain kept the cover down? Or have they started doing more mowing?

Re: AKC trial at Dresden OH
First off let me say the weather was not good for anyone & I wasn't trying to slight the dogs that placed, all placements were earned & well deserved.
Like you said luck of the draw & I have been at both ends of the draw the best conditions & the worst. That's trialing plain & simple.
Only 1 dog scratched in OGD out of 27 dogs so pretty much everyone there gave it a go.
The grounds this year were in the best shape they have ever been since we started trialing there. This spring they were ideal in my opinion.
They did a controled burn sometime this yr plus some mowing & the dry conditions kept the cover thinner then usual & not much over thigh high compared to thick & waist or chest high the previous
yrs in the fall.
I have 3 more trials there this fall 2 more this month & 1 next, just hope we have better weather!!

Well sounds good. this will be my first time handling at a trial and Ill have my boy in Open derby, and Am Derby. Sounds like I might as well drag along a second horse.
Hope to see you there.
