FLORIDA OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
Lake City, FL—Ninety dogs (88 pointers and 2 setters) competed for the title at the Florida Open Championship held at Ted Baker’s Chinquapin Farm in Lake City, FL. Topping the field was Pride’s Alibi, white, black and ticked pointer male owned by John Lee of Statesboro, GA, and handled by Fred Rayl. Runner-up was Point Blank, white and liver pointer male owned by Bill and Sue Wester of Lumberton, NC, and handled by Robin Gates.
This year the stake featured a qualifying series and one-hour finals. Solid Hilltopper, white, liver and ticked pointer male owned and handled by John Russell of Bowling Green, KY, was named top qualifying dog.
Advertised judges Freddie Epp of Marion Junction, AL, and Harry Gillmore of Murphysboro, IL, presided.

GEORGIA SHOOTING DOG TRIALS
Waynesboro, GA—The Georgia (Shooting Dog) Derby Classic (35 entries) started at noon on Wednesday, January 11, and was completed on Saturday, January 14.
Placed first was Elhew Mr. Bob, pointer male owned by Fred and Bernice Rowan of Atlanta, GA, and handled by Doug Ray. Second was R J’s Shortstop, pointer male owned by Tom and Bonnie Hamilton of Lexington, KY, and handled by George Tracy. Sonny’s Rambler, pointer male owned by Jennifer Parler of Elloree, SC, and handled by Steve Browder, was third.
Judging the Classic were Earl and Margaret Drew of Hoffman, NC.
The Georgia Open Shooting Dog Championship (88 entries) started on Sunday, January 15, and barring any delays should be completed on Sunday, January 22. Judges are Jim Crouse of Dixon, KY, and Mike Wrenn of Greenville, SC.
