Halti's and gentle leaders with heel

Has anyone ever used a Halti gentle leader or similar device to help leash train a hunting dog to heel?
Our akita/ridgeback/lab mix took to this well. We used it to keep him from pulling my wife along on walks. He almost outweighed her.
If you're not familiar with it, it acts similarly to a bridle on a horse with the force of the leash acting on the dog's muzzle instead of shoulders. If the dog tries to get ahead of you he has to turn his head sideways.
Just curious.
