6 month old springer

Can anyone help me get started?

We have a 6 mo. old springer that is mostly a family dog. We have never trained or hunted with dogs, but would like to try and train this one to hunt. He can do basic stuff like sit, stay, come and fetch a ball and drop it when told to.

What are some commands that we should learn and how can we teach him?

We ordered some books, but haven't received them yet. Has anyone read them?
