I just got my pup about 2 weeks ago from a little breeder up in Kansas who knows his stuff. This is my first GSP. So far the little guy takes in instructions like a spounge. Not sure if this is puppy sage #1 and when he hits his rebeliouse teenage years all this will go down the drain or what. But so far its a blast and extremely fun watching him learn. As far as instructions ? Read this page as much as possible. Get Perfection Kennels " Perfect Start and Perfect Finish" videos. They show methos that work. I am going to use my pup pretty much how you are going to use yours. In about a month I am going to throw in a few Retriever Training tips I got from some of my older brothers bag of waterfoul tricks.

You can watch all the videos and read all teh books and that can help. Although I would recomend getting involved in a local hunt club, find a mentor. Its always easier to train with others, especially if they have all the tools you may need. If you want to learn ask people that have "been there done that", dont ask a book and stick around here theres a wealth of info!

The best thing that you can do for you pup is get it on lots of wild birds.

If you can't get on wild birds, find a ready source of great-flying pen birds and pigeons.

To do either, you obviously need a place to train.

In between training, if you have a place to take pup on walks, you should do it several days a week. Early on, the place should be easy for pup to get around in...like mowed fields. As he gets older and bolds up, harder going is OK.

A good dvd for the pointing side is Perfect Start by Jon and Cindy Hann. I have them in stock. For the retrieving side they cover it in the dvd also. I would do proper water introduction and slowly extend the dogs marks on water and land. Good luck
