Alpha t100 system

Post by bnew17 » Fri Feb 18, 2022 10:45 pm

I bought a new Alpha t100 bundle 3-4 months ago for my GWP. Have not taken it out of the box. I am just starting Perfection Kennels PS program. Jon really stresses the need for perfectly timed stimulation. I know he uses a different stim set up, but for those with the t100 can I get by with using the stim feature on it?

You can but changing setting is awkward. Way better off with the 550 or 550 + . They use the 550 almost exclusively.

I have the alpha100 and it isn't the best training tool but it is so flexible I can make it work for my needs. Most issues I've seen are operator error.

In normal mode when a training button is pushed the intensity levels for the collar selected are displayed. After a short delay the screen will flash back to the previous screen. This makes it difficult to raise or lower the stim level. There is a feature that will help though.

Once the training button is pushed and the intensity levels are displayed there's an icon that looks like a push pin in the lower right corner of the display. Touch that that pin icon and a slash will appear through the pin. This pins the training button intensity to the top screen. Now when you push a training button the screen doesn't return to the previous screen. The training button intensity settings are then always available for easy changes. The only down side is having to look at the screen to determine the setting. If you want to return to the previous screen hit the return arrow at the bottom left.

When training instead of having to change intensities I might program each button with a different intensity. This negates the need to raise or lower intensity of a single button. I can go lower or higher by just hitting a different button. The alpha can also be configured in a traditional manner of LOW-MED-HI like the Pro550. The unit is very flexible, you need to find which method works for you.

I use the pin feature when training and might even lock the screen so I don't change the intensity setting.

Is there a transmitter (like the 550) that is compatible with the Alpha 100 collar?

Yes, the Pro 550 Plus transmitter is compatible with the tt15 collar. The Pro550 Plus transmitter provides basic Direction and Distance with no tracking features. If Tracking is needed the Pro550 Plus can be paired with the Garmin Explore app on a cell phone and will provide some tracking functions.

Thanks. I assume the regular 550 transmitter will not work?

It looks like the transmitter only for the 550 Plus is $399, and the transmitter and collar for the 550 is $399 as well.

I have looked at the Alpha 70, and it is $100 cheaper, but appears it has less levels of stim intensity. Maybe this will be better suited for me? It sounds simpler.

Decisions, Decisions. I wish I had not rushed my purchase of the Alpha 100 and studied it more. It was the first E collar I have bought, and I did not realize the Stim features were so different,,,than say the unit that Jon uses in his training videos.

Don't discount the Alpha 100. It is very flexible. Learn the features and practice using the collar before spending more money needlessly and risk being disappointed. Trust me, there is more to Jon's methods than which e-collar you need to use.
