Backyard Covey

Post by Garrison » Mon Oct 11, 2021 10:34 am

My daughter and I took our setter out the back gate to stretch his legs yesterday afternoon. We have some water district acreage behind us that holds a covey of quail, so I usually bring the blank gun. Caught a couple pretty good pics of this one with the cell phone.

What a beautiful picture! That's quite the backyard. :)

Took my dog out for a run Sat. and now he has a cruciate ligament rupture. Happy Thanksgiving.

Sorry! Dealing with the same thing and same restrictions with our GSP. No fun, brain says go and leg says no.

Another afternoon moving birds and burning 209 primers. He wasn’t showing me as much as I would like for the first half of the run, then got a little too sticky in the birdy area. He finally opened up a bit after a couple contacts and started hunting harder. We are still figuring out big coveys, first contact had to be over 100 birds.

Running a young dog under a full moon makes for a pretty good Tuesday. Lucky to have wild birds and plenty of space to work them a mile from the house.

What beautiful moments to capture! Especially that one you got of running him under the full moon.

I knew you had some back yard coveys down there. They are great for training. Nice photos.

Went out this afternoon and found 2 coveys. Was riding my quad. Getting a new hip joint Dec 8. Popped one bird for my dog because she isn't going to get much hunting this season. She needs to get some feathers in her mouth now and then. California sucks for everything else but for outdoor adventure and hunting quail I would not trade it.

Best of luck with the surgery! Let us know how you are doing. If you need anything or someone to come stretch out her legs while you are on the mend, would be happy to help.

Not down and out yet. Will take a bunch of Tylenol and take my kids hunting on the 20th. Scouted 4 more coveys yesterday. Running Missy in a So Cal NSTRA trial Dec 4-5. May ask for a handicap Quad variance for that.
