capercallie hunting

Post by veggie » Wed Sep 02, 2020 5:12 am

Hello,

Usually we hunt grouse around here, and she is working them good at the moment. Lately we have stepped up the game and tried a few trips for capercallie, but they run alot more then grouse do. Do anyone have any experience with training a pup for this kind of hunting, and would like to share? The dog is now 13 months, french brittany.

I don't know a thing about hunting capercaillie with a dog, however your dog is very young. The more birds you but your dog on the better. It will make mistakes, but it's only a puppy.

If this sounds like I am talking to myself I am, because I am about to hit the fields with a 10 month old GSP.

Have fun!!

Thanks for posting because up until now I didn't know capercallie even existed.

You could sit her down and read her the manual. Or you could let her try to work the birds and figure out how to best do it. it's not like you can tell her how.

Go back and work grouse that she has success with in order to keep her keen. it won't take her long to figure out they are different birds and she will have to work them differently.
