Next Training tool purchase

Post by Txhunter27 » Mon Jun 24, 2019 7:19 pm

Looking for opinions between buying a hand held dummy launcher like a lucky launcher or using a bird launcher and a blank gun.

Specifically looking to expand retrieving training and working on steadiness in blind with my young GSP. Was thinking that using a planted bird launcher with dummy to set up a hunting situation, launch the dummy fire the blank gun would be more of a realist setting vs firing off a hand held dummy launcher.

Bird launcher would also then double for upland work.

Any opinions appreciated, I've never trained with a hand held launcher and not entirely certain of its proper application.

Thanks!

If you don't have a blank gun, get a 209-primer blank gun. If you have a blank gun, get a winger. Skip the handheld launcher. All that lets you do is not have to walk out very far for longer marks, but the mark still originates from you. The winger will allow you to throw birds, bumpers, DOkkens, etc. and you can be beside your dog while the "bird" is flying. You can put a live bird in the winger, although, I have not done that.
