Above and Beyond the Call
I hope everyone who uses an ecollar has at some point tried it on themselves. I hope also that you have not done it this way; http://www.yourdailymedia.com/media/116 ... ollar_Test

That was pretty funny. I've tested mine, but I just put my fingers on the probes. I don't turn the collar up past what I have felt myself.
That guy's problem was that he tested a bark collar, not a training collar with remote.

I know a guy who tried the bark collar on himself. He let out a "WOOF", and the collar zapped him. When he squealed, it zapped him again and again and again...

I have a 13yo son that is at that age where he is starting to "feel his oats" and wants to arm wrestle, race and "test" the old man a little. He's a big boy and since playing football this past fall has ramped up his challenges lately.
Yesterday, we were at a hunt test and sitting around killing some time while waiting to run our GSP pup. My son was bored so he asked if we could have an e-collar contest. I laughed and said sure. He got the e-collar out and we proceeded to play chicken with it. The rules were that we would start at the lowest setting and take turns holding it against our palms while the other pressed the button.
We started at level 1 of 15 and quickly advanced back and forth to level 8 before it started to get interesting. Back and forth through 9, 10, 11....12 ...........13 ..............14 ..............and finally 15. He went first each round which meant that I would have to let him zap me to not lose.
After we both made it through level 15 he said "Ok, dad. I'll hold it against my neck at level 15. Can you handle that?!" "I said, If you can do it I can do it!" Well it took a few minutes but he worked up the courage and handed me the transmitter and held the collar firmly against his neck. I looked at him thinking at that moment that he had inherited much more from his mother than from me! I handed him the transmitter and said in this round we zap ourselves. He took the transmitter and squarely looked me in the eye and .......ZAP!!!!!!! He flew off his camp stool and landed on his butt with his eyes as big a saucers! Through my uncontrollable laughter, I yelled "YOU WIN!!"

The fact that the guy(s) with the collar around their neck are laughing tells the tale on whether collars are humane or not. Yes, they will get someone's attention, and any dog's attention. Yes, someone who is stupid and cruel could rag a dog too much with one. But they do not kill, maim, or permanently injure. Just enough to get the desired reaction is just enough.
