I have a Griff that is nearing 1 year old. With the heat were getting its making it almost impossible to train.

Just wanted to see what you all work on over the summer.

The inclusion of some water work & some fun-time in the water sure goes a long way if it is an option.

Always make sure to cut the dog a little slack if their nose isn't quite up to what you witness in the coolness of fall.

An unsteady/green dog should be monitored a little closer as bird contact may be a bit closer than normal.

Use the wind to advantage as best is possible!

North Carolina , the Humidity must be a nightmare ,for a 'Griff' ! ....Wind/Scent ?..pfft . that would be good?...There ain't none but on the deck , not in the air !.
Close work and drills of basic obedience for that 1 year old to make good use of the weather/humidity/heat. ..No use in 'big running' .? ..You can do that later when it's right. ....cooler. ?
Ohh! ..and have a cold beer in between sessions

Obedience work and water drills.

My setter is difficult because he hates to stop for water. He just won't drink. I have to snap a lead on him and make him stay for 5 minutes when he's really gassed before he'll take a drink.

He pointed a woodcock today though. I made my way through thick pricker bushes to get to the point with my camera in video mode and the bird busted right at me right past the camera.

I'd say frequent breaks and make him drink but it's tough.

Enjoy life. It's summer. We have a lot of hot weather right into the beginning of hunting season. Between job and heat it's tough to find a time to condition or train.

I live on the desert. 70 at night 100 at noon with 35% humidity. We train or road 1/2 hr before sun up or 1/2 hr before sundown. Twice a week. Even then , all the water she wants and a cattle tank to dive into at the end.

First thing in the morning and right before dark....otherwise my DD is in his "pool"

The EP doesn't seem to mind the heat.

We run in the morning when we can or right after the sun crests the horizon and there is still light.
Birds in the morning. If we miss that it is yard work and we are working on obedience.

That's a great picture. 32 degrees here( about 89 F) with HIGH humidity again! We stay home and fight for who gets the fan.

Thanks! Heat advisory almost every day between 12-7 pm....heat index of 100+ is the norm this time of year. At least we don't have to deal with the snow!
