Dog laying down during force fetch

Post by Roe90 » Thu Oct 29, 2015 4:58 pm

Small but if trouble here, we just recently transitioned force fetch down to the table with the dowel and the square pieces on the side. When I lay the dowel down my yellow lab female lays down and gets it and struggles to get back back up with it...it's awkward. I'm not concerned with it very much and it's probably just her getting used to the new chapter in ff but I wanted to nip it early, my plan is just to move the dowel a little closer to her where she has to get it from "sit". Anyone experience this before? Any suggestions to get her to stop.

Without seeing it, I"m guessing you are correct; you're holding it out to far. I certainly wouldn't let the dog lay down though. When she lays down, I'd raise the dowel and really put pressure on the ear so she had to jump for it. I'm also guessing you're not putting enough pressure on the ear.

Now later this will probably correct itself, most likely during the walking fetch or fetch to pile. Not a big deal just something I wouldn't let the pooch get away with.

Without seeing it I think I would take it back to where you're placing the Dowel in front and away and work it back to where you're holding the dowel away and down. Basically go back a bit and work your way back to where the problem is (If that makes sense). Before this when you were holding the dowel at arms length and towards the table was she laying down then? I'd go back to that point at which she wasn't laying down and work that more and then slowly come back to this point and make the correction now.
