Is a .22 blank worth it?
I'm at the point now where I'm contemplating the intro to gun fire. I just have one dog, so I was wondering if getting a blank .22 was worth the investment or if a .410 would be fine (which I already have)?

Forget the 22 and use a shotgun.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!
Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

Yep, use the .410 and buy more training birds.

1. If you have a .22 pistol, just shoot blanks out of it.
2. It's actually better to use a riffle because you can direct the fire away from them with the long barrel.
3. A shotgun with primer only works great.
4. Later, add the live shot shell round.

I bought a 22 blank pistol because it isn't a firearm and I can use it for yard work while it would be illegal to use a firearm with blanks.

I second the use of a .410 with the shot, wad and powder removed. Pointed away from the dog and up into the air when the dog is in full chase.Bacon1676 wrote:I'm at the point now where I'm contemplating the intro to gun fire. There is also a place for a .22 blank gun. There used to be cheapo blank guns available for like twenty bucks. They quit working after a few hundred rounds went though them, but if you only have one pup, it should last until you lose it or forget where you put it.
As the poster above said...it is not a firearm under US law. Just a toy that goes bang.

Depends.... shotgun is obviously closer to what he'll hear. if you have ample land to use it on, use it. I have a starter pistol and honestly don't use it much. Here's the next question, what type of dog? Because that is a factor. Looks like you have a GSP (your avatar). In that case shotgun is fine.

I have an extra one I would give you , but I don't think we'd get away with mailing it to Kentucky.Bacon1676 wrote:I'm at the point now where I'm contemplating the intro to gun fire. I used to use shot shell case's with just a primer in them. Drill out the primer pocket to 1/4" and you can insert new primer easily and the fired one taps out. I wouldn't go from an mty case and primer to a loaded shell though. To much noise difference. 410 shells are not inexpensive, 22 crimps much cheaper.

Thanks for the useful information.
Sharon
Thanks for the offer. Got some friends in the Schomburg, Ontario area that could get it to me, but I think I will be ok with the .410.

Kill two birds with one stone and purchase a DT Launcher and when you want to use it as a blank pistol just use it without the dummy attached. Guaranteed it sounds like a 12ga.
