Water Retrieves

I went up in the mountains last night with Cooper and my Brother In Law. We hiked our buts off looking for grouse to no avail.
The highlight was a beaver pond that we came accross. I have not had Cooper around the water much. A few small streams that he has walked through or jumped accross are the only water he has seen.
Copper will usually retrieve anything. So I started throwing a stick in the pond. First close to the edge where he could still touch. He went and got each time I sent him in for the retrieve. The last one I sent him clear out into the middle. He had to swim for that one. Sure enough, he went out and got it.
I don't know if this method will work for all, but now I am sure that Cooper will do a water retrieve. Especially if there is a bird for him to bring back.
