How can I fix my 4yr old labs problem?

I have a 4 yr old black lab that I started training as a pup to retrieve ducks, the first 1yr 1/5 - 2yrs he did great. Then for some reason he quit retreiving. would not pick up a duck but pheasants, pigeons, quial,or dove he didnt have a problem with. Every now and then if I can get him on a crippled duck he will chase it and get it. But that is rare? Can someone give me some things that i can try?

It sounds to me as though you didn't follow a modern, sequential training program.......... did ya ?
Force Fetch is going to be your answer once you have the pre-requisites in place.

No i didnt. i had never trained a duck dog before. So how do I star force fetch and how do I get the duck part not an issue?
