GSP will not come out of his Kennel

I have a two and a half year old Male GSP that hunts great. When he was one we had a fire at our house and he was in his kennel when the smoke alarms went off. everyone got out fine. Ever since then if I am watching football or basketball on T.V. he freaks out when the whistle is blown. I train in the field using a whistle and have no problems. Now that it is football season he will come out of his kennel to eat and to go out side but that's it he acts very scared. I had him out last weekend and hunted a preserve and he did great. any suggestions on getting him back to his normal playfull self would be great.

You could re condition. Everytime the whistle goes , feed him a treat.

Just me but it seems kind of unlikely that the TV whistle is being associated with the fire alarms and that he has held on to that for that amount of time.

Has something else happened or are you making a fuss when he is in the house during a game and a whistle is blown.
Are you animated when a call happens or a play during the games?

Just seems odd to me. Seems like something else. Just thinkin, not knowin.

But I think Sharon is on the right track. But do not make of him, just matter of factly give him simpley and quietly the treat or some other.

The other is ignore him, or make him go to his place of rest.
