I had my girl spayed, so she was out of commission field wise for a good 10 days. During this time she got ahold of my whistle (same one I have been using from day one) and chewed it up. I got her out in the field this weekend and she wasn't listening very well at all. She was much more responsive to voice commands, which is normally just the opposite. I was using a different whistle with a different pitch until my new one comes in. Could the different pitch be the problem? Or is it more likely the two week layoff?

It is the different whistle. When out hunting with friends my dogs won't even skip a step when they blow their whistles but respond to mine.
