Yes it's normal. She is just a pup in a new world and you are the only thing out there that she knows for sure and she doesn't want to lose you. Remember you said you took the pup for a walk. That is good. And if she could talk she would say she walked with you. Just don't put pressure on to do anything at that age. Every time you take her she will venture a little further away. That may continue till she is several years old and you will be trying to keep her closer.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!
Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

like ezzy said above, same thing happened here... your pup will get more confidant as time goes on.

To help that out, start talking or singing or whistling. Not to the dog, but just in general. She'll quickly learn to keep an ear on you rather than an eye, and will be able to venture out farther with less fear of losing you.

Wes,
Being new to pointing breeds myself last year I asked that exact question to the breeder of my gsp. He told me to call back in a couple months when I have problems reeling him in. He was right.
It wasn't too much longer and my pup was ranging way out there.
Give the pup some time, run her in short cover fields and she will be running towards the horizon before you know it.
