Real Bird Bumper

Post by prairiefirepointers » Wed Feb 23, 2011 4:36 pm

I got a call today from Scott Linden, host of TV's outdoors show "Wingshooting USA" today. We chatted about dogs, children, and his newest product, the "Real Bird Bumper" which he has developed, and calls "The best retreiving dummy in the world". Rather than copy all the information from his site and post it, here is a direct link to the product and a summary written by him describing his product. http://scottlindenoutdoors.com/2010/11/ ... st-gadget/

My question is: What do you think about it? Would you spend $40 to buy it? I would sincerely appreciate your input. Don't hold back. :D

Well, poo. If only I would have invented the $40 deflated football with a shammy stuffed in it.

I admit, That was my inital impression too. He's sending me one to test out. I don't want to say anything negative about it until I have a chance to put it to the test. Aestetics don't always provide the best results... Kind of like a pretty girl with an ugly attitude.

True story. The hugely popular Kong toy began life as an automotive part.

As a consumer I would never pay that for a simulated fowl trainer.. Luckily in the business I am, I'll never pay retail for a hunting related good the rest of my life... with the exception of firearms.

I asked before I ever seen the product, why it retailed for roughly 40% more than a Dokken DFT. I still am unsure why. I know I couldn't sell it for 39.99 as its msrp stands. I have ALOT of MOP on this, but even at $30 I think it would be a hard sale.. Just from the looks of it.

Maybe this thing will amaze me. The jury is out.

My dog will retrieve a stick He will retrieve a bird. A stick is not a bird and neither is a bumper or any other facsimile of a bird and my dog and your dog knows it as well. But hot dang its fun to buy toys.

I guess it is one of those things one would have to try and see first hand. I think he needs to be more descriptive with his write up and video on why it is supposed to be better. It didnt convince me based soley from the web site that it is better, it really didnt say why it is better, but I would have to see it in person and try it before i would pass final judgment on it but based on what i read and saw on the web site i wouldnt pay $40 for it.

Oh, I got your creepy. One of my rescues is a pointer/GSP cross named Bubba. Bubba is not mentally robust, probably due to poor prenatal care. He seldom lets you touch him, but he loves to retrieve.

I live kind of in the sticks, but right off the highway. The rednecks dump trash out by the road. One time, someone dumped a bunch of kids' clothes and toys.

Bubba runs the trail through the woods with the other dogs. He swung off, apparently, to investigate the junk. When I hit the whistle, he came galloping up clutching a naked, lifelike babydoll that was flopping about in his massive jaws (Bub is about eighty pounds.)

THAT was creepy.

I've sold 300 in the past month and haven't had a return yet. Guess I'll just have to go without your money, though.

Sorry you feel offended, I was answering the original question. My response was based on what I have purchased in the past, which would be the Dokken decoy which I can pick up for $23, just looking at the product I didn't think it would be worth all most twice as much. I have said that before about other products and after seeing them used, changed my mind. Good luck.

When I asked for the board's input on this product, and stated "don't hold back" I was looking for constructive critisism. I still am. I was actually hoping someone had either bought one or had prior knowledge of its existence. If you think this product has flaws, shortfalls, good points, bad points, whatever, Please feel free to post them. However simply making fun of it is not respectful to Mr. Linden, and does not promote a healthy atmosphere for anyone else looking for an honest opinion or review of their product.

I am not suggesting anyone "sugarcoat" your feelings about the product, however I feel like we are all educated enough to be respectful in doing so. Your honest assessment does not have to be disrespectful.

So, can we please start over? :D

What do you think? Good Points? Bad Points? Questions/Concerns?

What's your bottom price on it for an honest review?

If I had one, I'd run it through the crew. Not for $40, though. So, if there's a deal on it, I'm in.
