I like the retriever training methods of Evan Graham. He has a good book out called Smart Fetch. You can get it here: http://www.gundogsupply.com/smfebyevgr.html

With my labs and a lab retriever mix they both had a natural desire to fetch. I just started by having them fetch a bumper. With Evan's book you can take your dog as far as you want to go. He does a good job of describing how to read dogs so you can determine the right amount of pressure to use while force fetching if you decide to do it. If you do FF a dog wait till it is atleast a yr old and get a pro to do it if you arn't comfortable doing it yourself.

Evan Grahams book is highly recommended but just to clarify. "Smartfetch" is the book that deals with force fetching. "Smartwork I" and "Smartwork II" cover all the other aspects of retriever training.

Thanks for clearing that up Az Draht. It's been awhile since I've read them.
