George Hickox Training Video Question

Post by JHumes » Sat Jan 29, 2011 9:55 pm

I had recently bought and watched the the George Hickox training video.I have noticed that he only mentoined and demonstrated how the dog picks up the bird, and not how the dog brings the bird back on the force fetch portion.Any comments or techniques on how to complete would be appriciated.

Not sure I understand you question. He is a little vague and doesnt go though the complete process. He may not show everything but he does talk about making the dog pick it up; then throwing the dummy 2 feet, then 3 feet, then 5 feet and so on.

the sequence ends with the bird being the last thing the dog retrieves . Treat it the same as all the other objects this gives the dog a sense of continuity. If you have expected the dog to retrieve all the other objects to hand without dropping them the bird should be the same. I used his method on my setter that was not interested in retrieving, now he is retrieving extremely well with his tail held high looking like a million bucks.
