stealing retreives

Post by sammy1 » Sat Jan 15, 2011 1:43 pm

Dog #1 six year old EP. Dog #2 8 month old EP. Dog #1 retreives to his owners hand. Dog #1 points bird --bird is flushed and downed and dog #2 is in the area(sometimes backing) and hears the shot and while dog #1 is retreiving-- dog #2 takes bird from dog #1.Dog #2 which at this point has had very little training on fetching. How do you train a dog from taking another dogs retreive?
Thanks

for now i would probably work them seperate on birds and try to avoid any further problems. it might take some FF and e-collar work and teaching a "leave it" command to totally get rid of it

Dog #2 will make #1 stop retrieving or it might cause a dog fight. But it is obvious to separate them. Second dog is still a pup and should learn lessons alone for now anyway.

Tailor made for a tie-out or chaingang. Pups learn by observing, too.
