GSP in need of retrieve training help
my 18 month old GSP is doing great pointing pigeons, quail and now even wild grouse. he does not like loose feathers in his mouth and will not retrieve downed birds for me. when i train him with my grouse dead fowl trainer he does awesome, he brings it back, drops it at my feet and sits. when i use dummys, balls, bones, frisbees or sticks, he won't bring them back and drop them for me. he in fact will turn his head and make me try to grab it like he wants to play. that drives me insane! now all of a sudden he's doing the same with the dead fowl trainer even when it's injected with bird scent. i have tried everything to break his "i want to play" habit but nothing seems to work. he isn't the least bit enticed by food or treats so thats out. how can i get him to refocus on the job at hand and not want to always play? also is there anything i can do to get him to want to pick up downed birds and bring them back to me? thanks

If you think you can or if you think you can't, you are right either way
