The field we are working in is pretty thick and the birds right before dark flock in in groves. I would not be streeching it when I say I got to flush 4-5 dozen birds off of his points in 20 min time!!

This is a picture from last week guiding. The young kid in the next picture gets to try to shoot his first bird. Dad missed both of the birds here real soon!

Image

The young kid got his chance on this point! Both are locked up on a small ditch with a great big creator on the other side! Believe me I planted my knee right in the rock bank while flushing the 5 Roosters! Ya the young kid, one shot killed his first Rooster and the Camera man did not take a picture of it! He was on the ground crying!

Image

The dogs Clown Right and Niki left watch as the 2 Roosters fly away!

It is in Utah, on the largest bird hunting preserve in the state. Utah just don't have the bird numbers that other states do but the owner of the bird preserve sure does a good job in raising his birds to be as wild as possible. He has acres of giant pens that he drives a tractor in and plants, feed, iragates and raises some big ol' weeds in. The birds sure show it.

He is a 1.5 years old. I nominated the litter for the Shorthair furturity but did not get a chance this summer to do much with him to take him. He is out of a son of Tonnilies Rising son and my Niki dog. Scott Skinner and Terry Heaton have brothers to him. Scott has sent his off to a couple of trainers and last report was he is going to be the real deal. I have got a little more time know to spend with Speed and we will see this spring how he fairs handled from a horse. Speed has wheels but as of late he is gettting shorter as I break him. In the past I have lost him 4 times a couple of times over night! That might have a play in his run......

No worries, you know the range is due back when is all done. If a dog don't get lost once or twice, he/she is not worth keeping, not here any way... : ) You got a winner

It does concern me just a little. The overnight times that he was lost I am thinking that he got a little scared. I was suprized that I even got him back! Lots of Coyotes out in the area.
Again his biggest fault is me not giving the time that he needs/needed.
His daddy also was a bit of a rebel at a young age. Bud was lost for over a week and then found at the following weeks trial!

TAK,
Is that Hickens? Cover looks as thick as ever. That dog's tail looked a little long to me at first, had me worried. 8)
