Went out training this morning to the field trial grounds. This past week end they ran a hunt test and I thought there might be some quail hanging around. I took my 4 1/2 month old GWP pup I am training for a client and one of my older dogs. To my surprize the pup pointed a quail and my older dog backed. Then to add to the excitement my older dog pointed and the 4 1/2 month old backed.
Just happened to have the camera. Never trained the little crapper on backing and for him to find a quail that wasn't planted made my heart go pitter, patter.

isn't it awesome when they do just what they're supposed to do without a word or a bit of training!!?? i absolutely love it when my dogs make other people say "wow," but love it even more when they make ME say "wow!" congrats on your great morning and good for you for remembering the camera!!!

Another successful morning of training. The pup will be 5 months on 9-30-05. He land retrieves, water retrieves, is staunch on his birds and has been shot over. Not much left to do except go hunting...Notice the launcher in the picture. Thought I would share.

hey janet, those are beauts!
however, just wait until they are a little older and see if they are still doing this, or rather are trying to prove to you what they don't have to do when you want them to.

John, the basics are there. . Any dog will make mistakes. But this little pup at 5 months is already enjoying the hunting world of finding birds, pointing them, retrieving them and enjoys the water. This won't change. The controll might, but then it is up to us to keep them honest. One is never done at 5 months, but this is sure a nice
start.

Great pictures Janet. That is good breeding paying off for you. I really liked the picture of your Volt dog that you sent me, very intense dog.

This pup was sold before he was born to a clinent in Idaho. Volt is his sire and the bitch was in Michigan. I went to "pick" my pup when they were 7 weeks old. There were 11 in the litter. My clinent perfered a female, but gave me the ok to pick a male. After all was said and done this little guy was my pick. He was left with me to start and will be going to his new owners some time this month.
Their season opens next week so the timing is perfect. All he needs now is expoisure and that he will have plenty of. The trouble is, it will be hard for me to part with him as it is with all my started pups, and yes, I wish he would be a Cover Dog Champion but the answer is no, not for me, maybe his new owner will pursue that route.
This was Volt's first litter and it is obivious he is reproducing himself.

Today was the final test and probably the last time I will be taking this little guy out in the field. The pictures speak for themselves and show he is ready for his new owner.
The temp. was 85% the humidity that and more. The bird the pup is pointing is one that got away from us and landed in the field. We went after it and the series of pictures are the result of this 5 months old talent..

Enjoy!
