Trainers in Colorado

Does anyone know of a good trainer near the Denver/Boulder area? We have a 3 y/o english cocker with some training and great insticts and a Gordon Setter puppy who comes from good lines. We would like to get the Gordon started early and correctly. And the cocker just needs the hunting training that we don't have the knowledge to complete. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Interview Ben Garcia. I have known Ben for a while and know he has a great work ethic and is very good with dogs.

Prairie View Kennels in Brush CO. Tim and Colleen Muhr are very nice people and have some excellent dogs. Have met them at hunt test and seen there products very good trainers.

100% agree. I have 2 dogs from his kennels and hunted with him this past Christmas. Anytime I have ever had questions he has been more than willing to share his knowledge. I spent some time at his kennel this spring. Stand up guy and great trainer.

You're welcome to come out to our training days (RMC chapter of NAVHDA) which begin the first weekend in March (PM me if you want directions). We'll be kinda lost with the cocker, though, as we're a pointing/versatile dog club.

I'd give a third for Ben Garcia. He's a standup guy that doesn't train with a lot of pressure and it shows in his dogs.

There's a Gordon club in the Denver area that puts on a test or two a year. You might try to find them, too.

Gordon Setter Training Options

Highly recommend Ben Garcia. I have two Gordons; one is almost two, and the other 'one' in May. I have been working with Ben weekly for almost a year, and the dogs are doing well. He is currently on the way to Texas for one month of training for his current clients. His kennel is currently using Rocky Mountain Roosters facilities which has proven to be an excellent training ground. RRR is about 1 hour and 20 minutes from the Ken Caryl Valley west of Littleton.

The local club is the Highland Plains Gordon Setter Club. They did do one hunt test last year, but most of the members seem to focus on the show aspects of Gordons, and perhaps one I know does agility. Another good contact in the area for dog training in general is Alan Davidson of Dogs Unlimited (www.dogsunlimited.com). I would send him an email also. If you want phone or email contacts for Ben or Alan, just let me know.
