Time to recoup before trial
How much time should a dog be given to recoup before a trial? I don’t want to road to close to an event….

How much time???
We train hard here, average 20 miles a week, (I love 4 wheelers). A dog in good shape needs no recoup time. Mine get at best over night. If a trial is local where I can, maybe a couple hours. Just my plan, I realize not all dogs get the work out, mine do. Your dog must have, and build stamina, to do well. A hard breathing panting dog is not picking up all the scent that is there to pick up..........."pear"
recoup
Are you talking about a normal gun dog or shooting dog stake? Or an extended stake? I always figure my dogs should be able to go for at least an hour and a half in the field without a break. That is generally enough time to cover most gun dog and hunt tests. We like to think we keep our dogs in shape year round. Most trial grounds and hunt test grounds are not as physically challenging for the dogs or myself as the natural cover we hunt. If you are road working your dog hard before a trial I would think a couple of days should help get the soreness and stiffness out.SDGORD

Grant,
I always try to let the dog rest up from the week of training on Thursday and Friday I will do some light work with birds in the morning.
30 min braces are not very hard on dogs, most only start to roll at 19 min! I will however give a dog a bit of Kyo or nutro call right after the first run.
