e-collar stimulation

Post by nevermind » Sun Feb 07, 2016 3:37 pm

This question is more for those that have a Dogtra 2500. I'm trying " Training with Mo" method to intro my pup to the e-collar and here command. Following Mo's procedure is working well except for one concern I have. Mo starts with low stimulation level one. I don't know what Mo has for an e-collar and I'm sure its not a Dogtra 2500.
Anyway I moved my stimulation up testing on my hand until I felt what I thought was a good stimulation starting point (27). When I got the pup to the point of testing him for here command with verbal here and e-collar when dropping the pinch collar the pup didn't respond. I moved the e-collar setting up to 35, 45 and 55. The pup finally responded at 55, but he acted like okay I know what you want or he just guessed I wanted him to come to me. I only tried the e-collar command one time that day. Today I took him back out and left the setting at 55 and he came to me using verbal here and the e-collar without a head shake or yelp. I'm thinking the 55 setting is more than low level as my older setter responds at 47 with same collar. What do you dogtra 2500 users think? is this a high range to put on this pup, I hate to think what level I might have to use to trash break him.

I have a 12 month DD, and use a Garmin Pro 550. My pup responds to a high level 1 stimulation. Several of his siblings owners also use the same collar, and there pups respond to the collar differently, one even to a low 5 level stimulation before any response. It shows me that all dogs respond differently. On my hand, I can't even feel the stimulation till a mid 2. Good luck,

It doesn't matter what the stimulation level is, it's how the dog responds to it. What your looking for is a shrug of the shoulder or twitch. If he yips it's too high. You will find that as training progresses you will have to increase the level of stimulation.

Now, I've been doing this a long time but when I break out a young dog, they eventually work through ALL levels of training so that in a field situation when I have to, I can up the level and not panic the dog. Doing it the way I do it though is not for the inexperienced because as the saying goes, "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction" and nothing could be truer of the collar.

The Dogtra 2500 goes up to 127 so 55 isn't all that high. As said , ever dog is different. Use the least level you need to get the job done. If it's 55 , then it's 55.

make sure your collar is charged one that is not will not put out what a fully charge will and test it on your hand and move up till you fill the nick put it on your dog and nick the dog watch for a ear twitch or any movement you may have to move up a little on stim..evan if you dog can fill the stim. you may have to move up to get dogs att. then move back down you wont the lowest stim pos.
